Agreed. Only one of them issued executive orders shutting stuff down.

I'm not sure it comes down to intelligence.

A lot of people in this country are lost and looking for purpose. I think that's true of a lot of people who follow politics, left, right and center. On the left, people often want to be viewed superior, of loftier mind, etc.

On the right, right now, and especially among young men, I think there is a need to reject the softness of the culture. Trump offers that. He fights, he doesn't apologize, he's crude and so on and so forth. He offers a place in a purportedly existential political battle for people who aren't ever going to war and they can do it from their computer or iPhone.

Agreed. Only one of them funded lockdowns nationwide, funded ballot harvesting, opened the door for voting rules and laws to be changed nationwide, sat on his arse instead of taking advantage of harvesting opportunities.

Not to mention was responsible for the CDC, which fueled all of the Covid bullshite with fake science.

Bonds proves 808 right. He cannot accept that Trump is uniquely (not solely) responsible for the Covid shitshow, and in ways unfathomable by any governor of any state.

And you continue to lend credence to my assertion that Trump defenders defend all actions he takes. Especially in the present. Four years later they might admit he didn’t do something correctly that they defended in the moment.

It seemed like you were marrying the ideas that Trump voters are dumb, confused, and don’t know what they want. Thus, Trump is their chosen candidate.

This only exists in your head. I said today that Fauci cucked Trump. Again. Classic liberal projection on your part.

I think they have general ideas that vary from voter to voter based upon their individually important goals.

The problem is that Trump didn’t achieve very good results versus the idea of Trump. He didn’t accomplish a lot legislatively. That is not solely his fault. But he shares in the overall failure.

Additionally, many Trump voters are far less interested in what he will accomplish when elected than in whether or not he’s elected. And if you said that he doesn’t change anything on the border, or DEI and that our country’s government moves leftward on issues like transgenderism and abortion during his tenure, they would still be happy he won.

That’s why I say I’m not sure they know what they’re fighting for. They view the election of Trump as an end in itself.

Of course it is. Same for every single candidate. Your point is not a compelling one.

While I understand why DeSantis did what he felt he needed to do, the biggest disappointment of ‘24 is no Trump - DeSantis ticket. Together they would be unstoppable and a great yin and yang. I think DeSantis still has a bright future and is the future of the party. The stage was set though, January 7th, 2021. Everyone knew Trump was coming back and there would be a large mountain to climb to topple him.

Which truth - that it's disappointing Trump decided he wanted DeSantis burned down, that DeSantis still has a future in politics, or the J6 protest somehow ensured Trump would be the '24 nominee?

I'll say it again because you're still struggling with reality.

Desantis should have laid low.

He should have waited to see if Trump's legal troubles bogged down his campaign.
The other option was serve out his governorship and be beautifully positioned for 2028.
Another possibility could have been Trump tapping Desantis as VP, once again positioning himself for 2028.

There's no arguing that Desantis made a series miscalculation, I'm not happy about it because I like the man.

Stop.

So he should have followed the calendar Democrats set up for his prospective campaign. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

The miscalculation was he didn't realize how emotional so much of the Right is and didn't understand what the bogus indictments would do for Trump. In other words, he didn't give Democrats enough respect in terms of their ability to meddle in the Republican primary. If you go back a little more than a year ago, there were all sorts of reasons for DeSantis to make a run.
