You're going to have to explain this one to me.

I would shoot someone if I had to use metric when installing and cutting trim or something in a house. As pointed out ITT, the factor of 12 is so much quicker when doing quick calculations of measurement.

Anyone who's pro metric system can get out of the country imo

What? Almost all scientific math is done in metric. It's far easier to convert units
The metric system is a nicer scientific system at units equal to or less than a meter, gram, or liter. So much so that few folks even know what a fluid dram, minim, or thou is.

But gallons, feet, miles, and pounds for larger more common measures are generally easier. Ease of use was, not coincidentally, how each actually of those measures originated in the Imperial system.

Exactly, the metric system does have some uses but it has no fractions, when you try to use it to measure very small dimensions it has too many characters making math more complicated.

Yep, this definitely has grandpa Simpson energy. BoJo knows his base.

Meter? what does a meter have to do with a liquid measure? Thou? meaning a thousandth of an inch? Would you like to tell me the connection to a minim and .001? Half note? I can see you are talking out your butt.

You are a very poor student.

Only thing that sucks is height. Who the frick wants to be 2 meters tall. How we measure horses makes for a more accurate description

It sounds sort of impressive if I tell people I'm 17 hands tall.

Not just that, but for small distances/lengths, it is easier because because base 12 is more divisible than base 10.

What a ridiculous theory. MM is just fine for a carpenter to use....

There are (were) 2 types of countries - those that use the metric system and those that put a man on the moon

While all internal calculations done by guidance computers and engineers during the Apollo program were done using SI units, all read outs used in the capsules and by flight controllers on the ground were converted to imperial units. It was more intuitive for everyone involved to look at data and communicate in Imperial units especially during critical phase of the mission.

Norfolk Royals for 99 pence a pound? That's a jolly good price, old chap.

The same thing feet, miles, and pounds do, Sport.

Yes. Seems you learned something.

There is no connection. Minim represented the smallest drop of water/liquid Apothecaries could generate at the time. It is a fraction of a fluid dram. Seems you learned something else?

And the gap between cm and m is too big. Need something intermediate... like a foot.

In my mechanical engineering classes when they had problems and the units were imperial the first thing I did was convert everything to metric and then solve the problem and convert back to imperial because it was much easier to work the problems in metric.
However I prefer my every day units in imperial units because I can more easily relate to them.

That would get you fired in my office.

No. Why would you say that? It's a lot easier to estimate something is 12 feet than 3.657 meters. Guessing fractions a meter is harder (unit too big) than solid units of feet (unit too big). Much less going "yeah, thats about 365 cm." "No way man it's more like 355cm." (unit too small).

*yeah, i know dm exist, but no one uses them.

You didn’t work for a company that made big precise mirrors for NASA space telescopes in say, early 1980’s did you?
