I still wonder how games like smear the queer spread so rapidly before the internet era. As a kid I always thought the game was something we made up. Now I find out kids across the country played smear the queer. It blows my mind that it somehow spread to all the schools via word of mouth.

We also would make the younger kids play football or basketball and we make them break up into teams. One was called the Bryce Bears and the other was the Partlow Panthers.

Partlow State School and Hospital, was a state school for people with mental disabilities, primarily intellectual and developmental disabilities in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Bryce Hospital opened in 1861 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, United States. It is Alabama's oldest and largest inpatient psychiatric facility.

Fun Note Tuscaloosa also has Taylor Hardin, a prison for the criminally insane (like axe murderers). From their website:
Taylor Hardin Secure Medical Facility is responsible for providing comprehensive psychiatric evaluation/treatment to the criminally committed throughout the state and forensic evaluations to the Criminal Courts for the state of Alabama. It is the only maximum security forensic facility operated by the ADMH. Taylor Hardin was established in 1981.

Now the jokes can begin about Tuscaloosa and crazy people....

My grandmother was head dietician at Bryce in the 60s and 70s. I would go with her sometimes when visiting. The patients we met that were allowed to work in the kitchen seemed more sane than a lot of people I see in public today.
