In the case of the Lusitania, a better appellation would a black flag operation that knowingly put the ship — through sins of omission — in harm’s way. Certainly there is plenty of evidence to at least raise that suspicion.

Prove that the Alamo was not a false flag. The firing on Fort Sumter. It’s about impossible to prove a negative like that.

The Lusitania was not a false flag. There were 1200 deaths of innocents. To pull that off you would need hundreds of people in on it, and there is no way you could even have the first conversation about that without horrifying your would be co-conspirator.

We not only know the Germans sunk it; we know which German U-Boat did it. The man who ordered the shot that sunk the Lusitania, Walther Schwieger, wrote about it in his War Diary.

But I guess you can always say, “Prove Scwieger actually wrote it.” And your method of argument simply makes everything unprovable and unknowable and is called Nihilism.

Great Britain lied about the munitions cargo that the Lusitania was hauling from the USA to Britain. They lied for almost 100 years and they would still be lying to this day but for the eyeball evidence discovered by the deep sea divers who saw the munitions cargo on the sea floor when they observed the wreck of the Lusitania. The Lusitania was 100 percent a legal target for U-boat attack because it was hauling components necessary to manufacture high explosives used in artillery shells. The USA was helping Britain produce artillery shells in 1915, two years before the US entered the war.

The USS Maine is less of a "proven" story. Most probably, its magazine exploded on its own because the highly explosive gunpowder used as propellant for the naval gun shells became unstable in the warm humid weather. A German cruiser around 1914 exploded for the same reason during its time in that exact kind of climate.

The Baralong Incident is a proven example of British War Crime atrocity of executing captured German sailors. This little war crime wasn't minded at all by the USA when it decided to help the Allies to win WW1.

And the ship also was carrying munitions and not just a passenger manifest and thus was a legitimate target according to Western rules of war. The German government had indeed alerted Washington that ships supplying war materials to the Entente would be targeted.

London itself ignored the established rules of war by imposing a starvation blockade on Germany that specifically was meant to break the will of German civilians. Certainly Germany committed their own atrocities against civilian targets during the course of the war yet the main takeaway here is WWI was not “War For Democracy” as argued by Woodrow Wilson but a clash between Imperial hegemons hellbent on global domination.
