Who gets to decide the warning signs? Do you still get due process? What if a scorned lover turns you in?
Due Process is a definite.
I think It would be required to be a civil and not criminal process. It is currently possible to do it but really next to impossible unless the person has Alzheimer’s disease or something. An involuntary commitment requires a near criminal burden of proof. The scorned lover fear is the reason the burden became so impossibly high.
I think, for example the shrinks analyzing the Buffalo kid - could be the type of person recommending it? These people clearly recognized the kid had issues, but what the hell were they able to do about it?
Basically, If a school or hospital recognizes that someone is dangerously bonkers- that’s not grounds to arrest someone. So where are they supposed to send them?
I remember the Sandy Hook mom had tried to commit her kid- and there was no legal means to do it.
Treating mental illness could solve a host of societal problems.
I don’t have all the answers. But just randomly banning all guns or AR15s bc they look scary isn’t the answer. It’s reaching the psychos before they have the opportunity to do something this heinous that’s the answer.

His own article says it’s hard to get military weapons while he argues it’s too easy to get military weapons.

It is, in theory, feasible to obtain an M16 produced for US military use, but those tend to be very costly and involve a great deal of hoops to jump through –

2 shotguns for bird hunting, .270 for deer and a 9mm Ruger for personal protection. Why can someone not own guns but still want better gun control?
You own the types of weapons that was used to commit the #1 and #3 worst school shootings in the US. Your shotguns was used in Columbine to educate several students. Sounds like gun control might have to start with your stash.

There was NO School Resource Officer assigned to the school in Uvalde .
The school district has SROS but does not assign them to elementary schools.
This is a common practice in rural areas. They try to save a penny (or maybe legitimately don’t have it) so they put SROS at the more likely schools to have trouble - high schools and then middle schools.
There is a very good chance a SRO could have at least curtailed the carnage.

The DOJ has been giving enormous amounts of money to states to get local courts to report mental health adjudications to the NICxS (NCIC). Its been going on in LA for the past 4-5 years. I have been involved in this with the LA state supreme court at the local level (my company provides software to local law enforcement). This is for the specific purpose of putting people that are a mental health threats in the NICS system so that when they get a background check they get denied.

Anybody who thinks that owning guns is going to protect you from the government is a fool
If the government wanted to come to your house and take your guns or just kill you they will. And you ain’t gonna do shite about it. Except maybe kill yourself
I find that argument for lack of a better word. Goofy

Until you realize how retarded it is.

My response is that no matter how many children get shot up in our schools (and it appears 14 died in that Texas school today), half this country will scream from the rooftops about their right to own a god damned arsenal of military-grade weapons.
And so, tough shite, no matter how many kids get slaughtered. We aren't going to do a damned thing about it.
Drunk drivers kill people every day. So we should create laws that take away everyone's vehicle and fridge full of beer?

Define “military grade weapon” please? See the issue is that in order to get a “military grade weapon” you need a special license. I have several AR platform rifles….not a damn one is “military grade”.

Damn. A fricking budget decision may have cost lives.

Of course. At the very least, an SRO would have his radio and been alerted to the chase that resulted in the shooter being in proximity to the school.

I don't give a shite if they are; we should be able to own an M4.

It’s weird that totalitarian and authoritarian governments disagree with you. Almost like you have no idea what you’re talking about.

If anyone questions why good people need guns, look at Chicago…..or Mexico. Guns are illegal so only bad guys and the under funded police have them. This government can’t even balance a budget, much less protect innocent lives. No thanks, we’ll keep our guns you commie cucks

Posting a police officer at every school isn’t a real solution.

I didn’t say that it was, but why do you say that? It could help significantly particularly in incidents like today where law enforcement was already involved with the shooter prior to the school.
There are loads of school districts/counties/parishes that do it.

I don’t care for that approach.
Do the people who get flagged get notice or opportunity to be heard?
Plus- I don’t think putting them on a crazy person list is the answer. That stigmatizes mental health problems which is a horrifically bad idea.
To clarify - I think It needs to be easier to hospitalize people with these kinds of problems. Not send them underground with their crazy.
