As a spouse of a former GSA troop leader I have to say the leadership are micromanaging nuts!
They will be the death of scouting after the eventual BSA-GSA merger!

As a former Boy Scout, this news is sad but not really surprising.
The organization has been in a free fall ever since it started taking the position that it is a private club and can discriminate against anyone it wants to discriminate against. Stories this this, involving kids who have dedicated years to scouting, have been devastating:
The organization has put itself in such alignment with far right politics that even people like me, who grew up with scouting, don't want to send our kids to indoctrination summer camp. We want our kids to go to plain old summer camp. So we pay a little more and skip the politics and smug discrimination.
The Boy Scouts are so desperate for members that they will again turn away from what boys need, an organization which caters to them which teaches them to be good people and good citizens. Well, now they can have girls (and their registration money) and teach them all to be smug little self-superior right wing bastards.

I'm right leaning but I don't have religion in my family. Honestly, it's one of the reasons I don't care to have my kid in there as i don't want religion forced on him. Religion is not synonymous with being Right wing.

BSA is about as religious as AA - "reverent" is the broadest possible interpretation. Either as a scout myself, or scout leader, we had boys of pretty much all faiths and no faith. My son is an Eagle Scout and is an Agnostic Deist.

Since most Eagle Scouts are around 14-16 years old, I can't wait until the first girl comes back from camping knocked up.

And there is a prime example of the failure of the recent leadership. You are the exact person who would uphold the core mission of the organization and help spread the message and morals of scouting. But if your son, who just happened to be born into a non-religious home, through no fault of his own, was found out to be a non-religious person, he would be expelled, regardless of his morals or good works. Then the BSA would take the position that they are a private club and can discriminate on the basis of religion.
My mother, who was Cub Scout Den Mother for me, my brothers and all of the boys in our neighborhood, was not religious. Under the new activism of the organization we would have all been expelled.
Scouting was a very important part of my childhood. My boys are not boy scouts.

You don't understand. This is not a left wing infiltration. This is an organization which has embraced extreme right positions which have led to a devastating collapse in membership.

Actually, it’s exactly the opposite. They maintained consistent positions, but the government kicked them out of schools and government buildings, so they couldn’t meet or recruit there. At the same time, lawsuits and insurance started eating up more and more troop and BSA resources leading to a less and less “adventurous” (i.e. boring) experience. Kids started losing interest in droves.
Since enrollment was tanking and most packs and troops were left homeless, they had to move into churches just to have a home to meet in. The government then pressured them to accept left wing reforms or face losing their non-profit status. They caved to Obama Administration pressure, allowed in gay scout masters, and saw enrollment crater even worse while thousands of churches showed their scout troops the door.
To make matters worse, the Obama Administration kicked the scouts off of military bases as well. The blood of scouting is all over the hands of Barack Obama.
In trying to oppease an overbearing progressive government regime, the scouts have killed themselves.

Quick wiki search, "Spirituality has been an integral part of the international Scouting movement since its inception. As early as 1908, Scouting founder Robert Baden-Powell wrote in the first Scout handbook that, 'No man is much good unless he believes in God and obeys His laws.'"

On May 23, 2013, The Boy Scouts of America's national governing body voted to rescind the long-standing ban on homosexual youth in the program. Effective January 1, 2014, "No youth may be denied membership in the Boy Scouts of America on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone."
On July 10, 2015, the Boy Scouts of America Executive Committee agreed with Gates, and voted unanimously to approve a policy change that would effectively end the national ban on gay adults.
On January 30, 2017, the Boy Scouts of America announced that transgender boys would be allowed to enroll in boys-only programs, effective immediately.
On October 11, 2017, the Boy Scouts of America allowed girls to join.

Since 2013 BSA membership has fallen over 10%. Maybe they should try some right politics?!

For years the BSA was suffering membership declines because it was so-far right wing. Then, they started to moderate, which caused the Mormons (there are a TON of Mormon Scouts) to question this move and many have started pulling out.
In fact, I would dare say the entire membership drop since 2013 is due to Mormons pulling out.
