House Republicans this week introduced legislation that would let the U.S. use money and property seized at the border from drug cartels to pay for a southern border wall. The bill, from Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., could help reduce Democratic opposition to a border wall. Democrats in the House and Senate have opposed new federal funding for the wall in part because Trump promised during the 2016 campaign that Mexico would pay for it. "This commonsense legislation will provide the necessary funding to completely secure our southern border and cut off the flow of gang members and drugs into our country," Sensenbrenner said. "Best of all, this can be done with minimal cost to the American taxpayer."

quote:

"This bill would break through the stalemate of funding for border security, thereby providing a path to reopen the government," he added. "Congress should consider this legislation immediately so we can return to other important legislative business." GOP Reps. Mark Meadows of North Carolina, Jeff Duncan of South Carolina, Phil Roe of Tennessee, Rob Bishop of Utah, Bob Gibbs or Ohio, and Jody Hice of Georgia cosponsored the bill. It was introduced as both parties have been scrambling to come up with some agreement on border wall funding. The lack of a deal has prevented Congress from funding nine federal agencies, in a shutdown that has lasted nearly three weeks.

How's Broom Hilda gonna justify not bring this to the floor for a vote?

frick, where was this shite when we held the lower chamber?

That being said, to any Dem who uses the bullshite about the wall being too expensive as their opposition, then what do they say now? It would be funded by the Cartel, not our money.

They just need to admit they hate the wall because they hate Trump

That is one interesting bill. Flyover country is gonna love it.

And I really, really, want to see Pelosi and Schumer stand side by side and argue against this one.

That would be a solid compromise. A win for everyone. The more money we seize, the more wall we get.

Paul Ryan also made sure the Goodlatte bill had no chance of passing by the moderates a weaker bill in essence giving them an off ramp.

The goodlatte bill still got more votes than Ryan's cuck bill but still failed but that's what he wanted anyway.

The Goodlatte bill would've passed if he allowed it to forward and really whip the votes for it.

frick that guy. What an huge whore he was for the cheap labor and big amnesty lobby.

Good riddance to him.

Sweet. Introduce another bill proposing $5.7B go to the wall, and put the rest towards an infrastructure bill. Let's see the Dems vote no and tell Americans why they are now against infrastructure spending they've been screaming for for decades.

They will be against it purely because it will actually be Mexico paying for the wall. No way can they allow that win.

Also, have you noticed how much more MAGA Kevin McCarthy and Steve Scalise has been and how they're firmly behind the President?

Trump never had that kind of support from Paul Ryan. Trump should've made McCarthy speaker after he won the Presidential election.

Pair this with a tax on outbound wire transfers to all countries, and we're in bidness.

"Immoral to use drug money to fund a wall we want to build to mitigate drugs that aren't coming from Mexico so we don't need a wall."

Lots of things are ok as long as it's not against our citizens. The job of the UNITED STATES Government is to protect UNITED STATES citizens and their assests/interests, not those of non-citizens.

Are you seriously dumb enough to equate civil asset forfeiture with a fricking global drug kingpin?

Seriously?

The GOP has always been tougher as a minority party.

Weird.
