Unsure why Mellow had a knife. The facts don’t show premeditated murder.
However the jury believed it wasn’t self defense, and I told the board I would stand by it.
A separate conversation is how we distinguish this from other stand your ground cases. This potentially degrades the law’s effectiveness. In Texas it was about as rock solid as it gets (you basically only have to reasonably fear for your life).
I don’t know Mellow’s testimony at trial.
