TBH, it’s a very challenging part vocally for most men. Seriously.
I’ve seen women play Jesus in that musical before. Didn’t go over very well with the older crowd.
I honestly don’t have an issue with black men playing that role. The issue is it being a woman - it’s only being done to cause a stir. I bet all the main cast are minority - especially Judas (the other lead). As for being gay, well, it’s a musical, 75% of the cast is gay.
It’s a great musical for pit musicians - especially the guitarist.

40 years ago I saw a production of this play and it was great. Made a lasting impression on me. This usage of the play is disgusting

Yawn. I like how they still believe they are edgy by going after christianity. I mean, the pope is woke. Quite a few churches have woke leaders. A crucifix was placed in a jar of piss and called art.
