Though I have stated elsewhere that I think the Ahmaud Arbery shooting appears to be unjustified, I certainly claim no special psychological insight into what motivated the father and son to confront Arbery. I know that media narratives should not determine their culpability in the shooting.
Maybe they were concerned neighbors worried about a rash of burglaries in their neighborhood? Or maybe they were secret Klansmen intent on targeting a black man who dared “trespass” in their neighborhood?
In any event, I have zero emotional investment in the fate of the two men charged. The point of my post above is to simply highlight the media double standard that is too often applied to incidents of interracial violence.
