White House and Republicans reach a tentative deal to avoid U.S. default

House Republicans have reached a tentative deal with the White House to address the nation’s debt ceiling and avoid a catastrophic default on U.S. sovereign debt, NBC News reports.
Three Republican sources say there is a tentative agreement between Republicans leadership and the White House on a debt ceiling deal, and that the contours of the agreement will be relayed to GOP members on an all-member call happening shortly, according to NBC News.
A senior democratic aide familiar with negotiations told NBC News a deal is “very close” and could be announced as soon as tonight or tomorrow morning. Another democratic aide says “we are dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s.”
An all-member call for Democrats is currently not planned at this time but it is possible that a call gets scheduled tonight, according to one Democratic aide.
The deal comes after more than a week of urgent talks between negotiators for the White House and House Republicans.
It also marks the start of a lobbying blitz by House and Senate leaders in both parties to convince their members to vote for the package, which will need to win enough votes in the GOP-controlled House and Democratic-held Senate to raise the U.S. debt ceiling in time to meet a June 5 deadline.
At least one senator, Utah Republican Mike Lee, has already threatened to use procedural maneuvers in the Senate to hold up a debt ceiling bill for as long as possible if he doesn’t like what it contains.

I’d guess it’s just the opposite.

It’s all a charade. Biden and McCarthy are on the same team.

Most Republicans are just as corrupt as the Democrats.
I’ve felt this way for years, and Trump exposed it: THE SWAMP!

If it's happening this early, I'm guessing the Rs caved big time.

Well this a huge relief……
“Exact details of the final deal were not immediately available, but negotiators have agreed to cap non-defense discretionary spending at 2023 levels for two years, in exchange for a debt ceiling increase over a similar period, sources told Reuters earlier.”

Rumor is they raised the ceiling but will have a spending freeze for a year or two. We will see how much they raised it but sounds like not a lot of cutting back on Dems part.

This tells you all you need to know. They vote how they are told... No need to worry about facts or logic here.

Business as usual.
Move along.
Move along.

This would be a massive win.
If we could just cap the budget and not increase it for 5 years, it would balance itself. Start off with discretionary, then start peeling back SS and Medicare/caid.

The CCP and the Democrats with help from the Republicans are the problem.

So predictable
They hemmed and hawed and pretended to be fiscally tough and put their foot down and always end up caving in and compromising

Such a drama queen. If Dems cared then they would negotiate sooner

If I was a betting man I would bet that Trump's boy caved.
