Biden Administration Rule Would Ban Nearly All Portable Gas-Powered Generators
After seeking to reduce the use of gas stoves, the Biden administration is pushing a proposal to ban the sale of almost all portable gas generators—which some experts have said would be disastrous for the millions of Americans who rely on such generators during power outages.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has proposed a policy (pdf) that would remove nearly all existing portable gas generators from the market. The new rule restricts the amount of carbon monoxide that generators can emit by forcing these generators to switch off when they reach a certain level of emissions.
Smaller gas generators would have to cut carbon monoxide emissions by 50 percent, and larger generators would have to cut emissions by up to 95 percent. Nearly all models currently available are expected to not be in compliance with the new standard.
Once the proposed rules come into effect, manufacturers would have to comply with them in just six months, a process that usually takes several years. The rules would also ban manufacturers from stockpiling noncompliant generators before the new standards are enacted.
Generator Manufacturers Speak Out
In a June 28 press release, Susan Orenga, executive director of the Portable Generator Manufacturers’ Association, pointed out that CPSC’s proposal will “create a shortage of essential portable generators during regional and national emergencies because it will prevent the sale of portable generators that are currently available on the market.”
“Furthermore, the timing of the CPSC’s proposed changes are particularly concerning, given repeated warnings that two-thirds of North America is currently facing an energy shortfall this summer during periods of high demand,” she said.
Nearly 5 million households across the United States use gas powered generators during power outages, and they are particularly important during hurricane season, when powerful storms often knock out electric utilities.
In May, the North American Electric Reliability Corp. warned that two-thirds of North America could face blackouts and brownouts between June and September if there are “wide area” heat waves, wildfires, and droughts, and the agency attributed some blame for the problem to the Biden administration’s push for renewable energy.

That's one way to eliminate old people off the books during the winter.

I've got such a generator in a box in my garage should the need arise, though I recently decided to go to a whole home standby generator, so I won't need that other one anymore.

Glad to see it may be going up in value real soon. I'll hold onto it as an investment and sell when the time is right.

Good thing his admin paid for everyone on the gulf coast to have one after Ida.

ETA - and sadly it’s really the only individual aid the federal government offered. With at least a dozen insurers going insolvent in the middle of claims.

A ducking solution for a non-existent problem.

I will tell you, it will make things difficult for some remote TV productions who rely on those little Hondas to power individual cameras.

frick Biden and his gang.

frick you Biden. You slimy fricking coward. We depend on generators when hurricanes and storms hit Louisiana. He and anyone who supports him are stupid idiots that shouldn't be stealing oxygen from the rest of us. Oxygen thieves.... frick cutting CO2, we need to cut down the number of oxygen thieves and their corruption upon society.
This lunacy pisses me off.

Our out of control gubment is intentionally decreasing our standards of living.

It’s amazing to watch. I really don’t think enough people are paying attention though. I don’t know whether to be scared or to cry. We are living through tyranny and have been for a few years.

Your mistake is thinking Dems give a shite what the Supreme Court or any court says. Obama always ignored court rulings on drilling and Brandon is the same way.

Say goodbye to the RV industry. People won't buy one if they can only run them on full hook-ups.

Eat the bugs.

These people are so disconnected from the real world.

When is the last time the radical Left seriously let an inconvenience like a Supreme Court ruling stop them?

Beginning with Obama’s admin, the Socialists figured out pretty quickly if they didn’t like a ruling, they’d create a work-around or just ignore the ruling altogether. After all, exactly who is going to enforce it?

They don’t care about ethics, governmental traditions or even rule of law.

They only care about implementing their full control.

You thought correctly but the Leftist mentality is to just do it anyway and then make their opposition take them to court over it. At that point they'll delay over and over again, hoping that the other side will either just give up or that enough of the populace will get used to their way that they'll shout down the opposition.

shite, look at Obama's DACA. Not only did the President literally create this legislation out of thin air, but then SCOTUS came behind and said of it that one President cannot undo the EOs of another President. THEN they did an about-face on when it came to Biden overturning Trump's remain-in-Mexico EOs for illegals.

It's too bad SCOTUS can't be taken to court for unequal application of the law.
