I was at Krog Street market in Atlanta for lunch week before last and a group of people taking the table beside me, large table, and I overheard that they were the local NAACP, and low and behold comes O'Rourke out from inside to pander to them. I left.

Well, this is just stupid.

Ask the average white American citizen where even the most prominent figures in “white history” (like Jefferson, Adams, Washington, or Franklin) were from and most wouldn’t have a fricking clue

Nobody under 80 (i.e. virtually no one still active in society) had anything to do with that either.

Uh.. our parents and grandparents were involved and elected the people who created a racist system. Many of them are still alive and still voting. It's only been 2-3 generations.

No point in apologizing.. but recognition and resolve to not repeat mistakes made in the past are important.

Would be really interesting to know the percentage of white people today that exist through lineage that tracks back to slave ownership in the U.S. by whites and while we're at it, what percentage of black folks trace back to black ownership of slaves.

My family immigrated to the U.S. from Denmark and Wales long after the civil war.

That’s the downside.

Nobody does because there isn’t one person still alive who was around to see slavery firsthand.

It was created in the 19th century.

There were politicians who defended and perpetuated the system through the late 1960s/early 1970s. But if you were old enough to vote then, you're already Social Security age.

A white guy, pretending to be a brown guy is lecturing about slavery?

No thanks.

Honestly I don’t give a shite. I was born in 1968, what happened prior to me becoming a legal adult at 18 in 1986 is irrelevant to me. Sure slavery was wrong but there ain’t shite I can do about it and I most certainly will not apologize for it because I wasn’t involved in it.

Wonder if Beto knows which President segregated the military? Wonder if he knows which party fought integration in the schools?

Many white Americans in Texas didn't know the full story of Robert Francis O'Rourke last year.

I've seen YouTube videos where organizations do this specifically. They'll pick a large city anywhere in the US, and start asking people basic American history questions this board goes over. Its incredible how many people dont even know the Founders or even the basic outline of government structure.

We know that Americans, bolstered by slave owning Democrats, were bought and sold in a then legal but barbaric practice. A new political party was born out of the abolitionist movement, called the Republican party, its first President, Abraham Lincoln signed the emancipation proclamation and the 13th Amendment AND won the Civil War, which was fought, mostly by white men, in large part, to end slavery.

A group of democrats, who opposed the aforementioned proclamation and ammendment, and weren't happy with the outcome of the war, assassinated that man.

The Republicans opposed Democrat Jim Crowe and the so called Jim Crowe laws.

Republicans railed against the Democrats radical organization, the kkk.

Republicans fought with Republican MLK for civil rights.

A democrat/leftist killed him.

A democrat/leftist killed JFK.

A democrat/leftist killed RFK.

Tell us about Slavery Beto, and your party's record....

I'm guessing he believes he does understand and know the full story? I'm guessing years of first hand accounts don't tell the full story? What a fricking idiot trying to stay relevant
