Do you honestly believe white Southerners pre 1970 would ever be the ones talking about interracial/gay marriage equality and civil rights for non-whites

FDR and his supporters were liberals. Their opponents were not.

You can type 10,000,000 words and not get around that reality.

When it comes to massive government solutions, the only difference between Democrats of the 30s and now is that today, they want MORE

If there had been an ACTUAL switch driven by race politics, Obamacare wouldn't exist and Nancy Pelosi would be pushing for massive tax cuts and deregulation while McConnel moaned about how little in taxes the rich pay

What is a conservative to you?

holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation, typically in relation to politics or religion.

That's the standard defined above. As stated in my aforementioned link, the strategy shifted with Democratic candidates because Republicans already got what they wanted from the government. Big business needed government for infrastructure, currency, and banking protections.

When being big government was no longer beneficial to them, they dropped it.

Southern whites (and some Northern ones too) didnt like the Civil Rights Act of 1964. You can't change that either.

And doesn't it seem strange that shortly after the act passed, there was a massive shift in politics leading to the election of Reagan. A president that was at best neutral about it.

If that act were never passed, you could still have liberals pushing social programs and conservatives pushing lower taxes. Those are mutually exclusive from Civil Rights.

And again, I never said race was the deciding factor. That honor goes to economic changes favoring big business over agriculture.

Chinese in America are enslaving other Chinese.
South Americans in America are enslaving other South Americans.
Saudis in America are enslaving other Saudis.

And if we're being honest, both wars you mentioned didnt neccesarily grant rights to Blacks by themselves. The Civil War with a Union victory assured freedom but not civil rights. Same goes for WW2. Stating that fact isnt an insult to the soldiers who died or the families. It's the reality of how our political system outside the battlefield has failed its citizenry at many historical times.

Reality is that our politicians have failed the citizenry many times. It's the biggest reason Trump won, he's not a career politician. And that's the reason the politicians hate/fear him so much. It's also why he accomplished more GOOD in his first 100 days than any of them did in their entire term.

So why should we ever elect another career politician? That's the root of all this turmoil surrounding the President.

Beto clearly has no idea slavery still exists in Africa. Nice red herring tactic though.

Pretty shrewd business men, selling the deadbeats in the village for wampum.
Out politicians never learn. Remember when Castro emptied his jails and sent them to America when Jimmy Carter was President.
After that wonderful "Civil Rights" bill, we take deadbeats from all over the world, if they hate America.

No Beto, it's just your dumbass that doesn't know the story of slavery.

Stop lumping white Americans in with your ignorant arse.

Moron comes across as a Hollywood celebrity who thinks whatever he knows, the American people know less.

While this topic is stupid, if a politician isn’t pandering for votes he won’t be a politician very long.

Yall can dance around this all you want but Democrats have ALWAYS been the party of restricting freedom and radical violence.

The Republican party has always been the party of individual Freedom.

Irrefutable facts.

What does that have to do with Democrats being liberal or not?

Strange? No. It's not terribly strange that after the country found itself experiencing double digit inflation with high unemployment and double digit interest rates that voter rebelled. A newly arrived alien from another galaxy could have called that one.

So, in other words, they didn't switch. Thanks. THAT was my point. Sheesh.

FDR would have been a Democrat today. Hoover would be a Republican today.

Pelosi would have been a Democrat in 1932. McConnel would have been a Republican in 1932.

Your ENTIRE argument and the ENTIRE "switched" narrative is rubbish

Why? It was primarily their party.

Yes he’s a douche. But it is sort of true. Most Americans believe Lincoln was a national hero and not racist.

Except for the fact that it was democrats who did all of those bad things.
