The more relevant stat is what has been the median price per square foot of real estate in real terms over the last generation or so. That gives a more accurate picture of real estate cost, and IIRC, it hasn't grown much.
And the ridiculously burdensome regulatory state has been the #1, #2, and #3 enemy of middle- and low-income housing build out. Even most of the true blue Dems in California are starting to realize that. If there is a policy that has always - 100% of the time - backfired spectacularly, it is rent control.

Yep, LIHTC and initiatives like the Opportunity Zones are the way to go IMO.

National rent control is a surefire way to make sure that everyone just sells whatever rentals they own.

EVERYTHING'S a crisis to these assholes. Maybe rent grew because of burdens put on landlords by local governing authority, Bernie?

I may have to give Sanders a look. I’m a trump supporter but I vote with my wallet and his ideas on healthcare and rent would greatly benefit me. My landlord just increased rent again this year and it’s borderline usury because there aren’t hardly any rent options here

Listen to some of Yang's podcast interviews - he has a good one with Joe Rogan. Has some great ideas to help restore the public trust in our democracy, as well as lift up the struggling workers including the middle class in a way that is going to increase jobs and not be a huge negative to the wealthy and upper class.

I thought everything was going to be free under that commie Bernie?

Bernie has a point here. But his proposed solution is coming at it from the entirely wrong direction.
How about instead we try and foster an economy that puts more money in people's pockets? And I imagine he would tell you that in order to do that we would need to steal that money from someone else and make sure the fricking government gets a hand in it.
He's a communist. I think the video of his campaign manager saying Trump supporters all need shot or thrown in labor camps pretty firmly establishes that.
Not much sense in even worrying about it, to be honest. This motherfricker has 0% chance of winning any election. Project Veritas has at least one more expose on him to drop.
Bernie is done. He done berned out.

I lived in the ghetto because the rent was cheap, and that was when all the Dem leaders were pushing "gentrification is racism". They really need to decide what is what.

It blows my mind that a guy who never had a real job his entire life is telling people what to do.

Do like the Indians and Mexicans multi family living in single family dwellings.

American rent payment rose 61% in real terms between 1960 and 2016
My parents spent $27K on a home in 1971.
That home in rural AL is now worth $170K.
That’s 500%+ increase.

The problem isn't rent
The problem is middle class wages. That has always been the problem and will continue to be the problem.

I’ve never seen a more boring candidate.
He is truly altruistic though. I’m sure he’s housing at least 3 less fortunate soles in his mansion right. Or he’s living extremely conservative at least?

So Bernie wants to destroy the housing market . Is there anything he doesn’t want to destroy in this country.
