This is a crisis. We need national rent control.

I was told by one of Bernie's ardent followers that Bernie is not a communist and he just wants free health care and education. That's it. He's not going any further down the communist road.

So you must be mistaken about what he said...

So we're to believe that the media income of people that rent houses only rose by 5% in 56 fricking years?

Do Democrats ALWAYS lie?

I wish there was a way to create an alternate universe to wargame Bernie's ideas

61% in 56 years? What have home prices gone up by in that same timeframe?

If you listen to Bernie’s policies it becomes quite obvious that Bernie and his team are either really horrible at math, or they are obviously lying to create support for their con just policy.

Bernie Sanders just doesn't understand how all of this works.... if people wouldn't raise property tax then rent would not raise either... he is going after the wrong people

Talk about an issue that will resonate in about ten large cities but fail in about 40 states.

More like government restricting the supply of housing through rent control, strict housing codes, requirements of set asides for low cost housing, etc.

All that shite does is make sure that any property where a rent controlled tenant leaves will be replaced by as high a rent as they can demand because it is the rent they will be stuck with for a long time and, besides that, people will pay it to live in a desirable city.

Yeah, one-size-fits-all Central planning has worked so well throughout history.

I think the answer is in offering more affordable housing units in areas of need or somehow making it so that jobs stop being consolidated into fewer and fewer areas - I think contract work and the ability / trend towards people working from home will help the latter.

Also, as long as the Opportunity Zones don't get over-politicized and repealed, those will eventually help push development trends into those kinds of areas and help create more jobs as well as potentially create more affordable housing options. The money went to the lowest risk areas when those markets were first created, but as those properties are absorbed, and people understand the OZ law better, investment will begin to happen in the areas the OZs were designed to help.

There is a lot of "NOT IN MY BACKYARD" thought, but with most high quality mixed income developments, you can barely tell it is mixed income in most cases unless it caters primarily to the lowest income bracket or is also subsidized through section 8 or something like that.
