So, do you still support universal suffrage?

I would argue that Trump, as a business man, had a fairly strong grasp of issues concerning the trade imbalance and issues that have arisen as a result of them. Bernie has lived in the bubble of socialism his whole life and therefore has no real world experience. Your comparison is grossly lacking substance imho. This is poor form for you.

with very little support in party leadership, and with only a barely-plurality support among early primary voters,

This seems true, however, this is also based largely on polling at the time. Needless to say, those polls were proven to be grossly inaccurate

who will nonetheless get the nomination because the remainder of the field is too divided to prevent it.

Meh, that is your opinion. Trump faced down the GOPe with viable candidates (Bush, and especially Cruz). In short...he won the nomination. This field of Democrats would best be described as incompetent, or inept. The two fields are nothing alike in terms of quality and substance imho

Yep. Can you imagine him on the World Stage? We'd get pushed around by Uruguay.

Still? I never have.

A “one size fits all” policy is foolishness. Every jurisdiction should have the right to identify the persons who would have a right to exercise the franchise in elections that affect that jurisdiction.

For instance, It makes perfect sense to disallow voting in local elections for a person who has not resided in that locality for some minimum period of time.

By the same token, it also makes perfect sense to allow a non-resident property owner to vote in county/parish elections. For instance, I live in Texas, but own. large tract of land in Iberia Parish. I probably pay more property taxes there than half of the residents. Is it not rational to assert that I have as large an interest in how that money is spent?

If the 2016 GOP primary field had started with only TWO candidates (say, Cruz and Trump), would Trump have gotten the nomination?

Be honest.

W had little substantive understanding of the issues. He didn't get a lot done. Obama had little substantive understanding of the issues. Given a filibuster-proof Congress, he arguably got less done than W.

Despite fighting through historic rip currents of Dem, NeverTrumpGOP, DeepState, and Media opposition, Trump incredibly accomplished the bulk of his campaign promises. That does not happen if someone has little substantive understanding of the issues.

Absolutely. Trump actually spoke about issues many conservatives were worried about but other politicians didn't want to touch because they'd be called a bigot. Cruz is a politician and would have obeyed the unspoken political rules because they've worked for so long. 2016 was a completely different presidential race.

So someone who has only had government jobs and been in Congress for several decades is an "upstart" and "outsider."

OK, Hank.

While you could argue similarities in the way the dim primaries are playing out, your original premise is an overstatement.

You could maybe argue that there are similarities between Bernie and Trump 2016 campaign given that Bernie has a loyal base, I think the comparison ends there.

Take Trump's personality out of the picture, there is nothing radical with Trump's ideology.

Bernie's socialist-to-communist views are completely out of the norm of traditional American political views, and his sincere adherence to them is probably what is driving his current success.

We seem to define “political outsider” quite differently.

For the great bulk of his career, Sanders’ ideology has been outside the mainstream of even the Dem party, let alone the populace as a whole. Of course, he has also not BEEN a Dem (but rather an Independent) for the bulk of that time. He was elected (AS an Independent) by the people an outlier state that prides itself on being outside the mainstream.

In DC, he has seldom been appointed to any of the major Committees, and he has never been Committee Chair.

He has spent his career as a political gadfly.

Yes, I consider him to be an “outsider.”

Trump IS Churchill.

He warned us 30 years ago about China.
He has a great sense of humour but a slightly dark soul and sees himself as the person to rise up when the nation is challenged.

Wow this game is easy.

Is Bernie paying more than Bloomberg or does he depend on the ignorance of his followers?
