are you proposing that this really IS a "kid" vs "parent" analogy??
and YOU are in favor of giving the KID the veto power over what the NEXT YEAR's spending will be??
Don't you have this BASSAckward??
Isn't the CONGRESS the parent in this constitutional environment? (or are you admitting the constitution is still that thingy those old white sumpremests cooked up?)
methinks you have this bassakward
I didn't create the analogy, the other poster did.
And I think it holds up just fine for the purposes of paying debts already incurred. Past expenditures are due and owing. Those have to be paid, regardless of what happens with spending in the future.

yes - they actually think the POTUS gets to spend whatever they want and then send the bill to the Congress and the Congress is obilgated to pay THAT - PLUS anything the POTUS wants to waste it on NEXT YEAR.
these people are certifiable idiots

reach across the aisle, show bipartisanship.
To paraphrase R Lee Ermey, “Democrats are the kind of people who would frick someone in the arse and not give them the common courtesy of a goddamn reacharound.”

It was also reported by Bannon that Yellen has been burning up the phone lines calling the members of the Corporatocracy, urging them to call these inflexible Americaa First/MAGA congressional members and persuade them to reach across the aisle, show bipartisanship....blah, blah, blah...
We are waiting on the Senate to do the same. Schumer has not passed a bill.

you pay the bill, but only AFTER you take away the card.
Posted on 5/19/23 at 11:23 am to Bass Tiger
I sure hope they don't give an inch. Spending has to stop. Budget needs to shrink, every year. Let the Democrats cry and scream like the irrational insane woke idiots they are. EVERYTHING liberals stand for is killing this country.

The debts are already incurred. The principle is exactly the same.
Again, I didn't create the analogy, the other guy did and I responded within his analogy.

This is going just the way the Left designed it.
By the 2024 election this will be the Republican recession not the Biden recession.

Except in reality, you pay the bill regardless of what you do with the card.

No one in this thread has stated anything like that. The debt represents congressionally-approved past expenditures and already existing obligations.

This is about FUTURE debt. Don't obfuscate the issue.

How does this bill stop that ??
It is my opinion that it raises the debt limit AND provides some INCREASE in next year's debt.
Isn't it the obligation of the Executive to operate within those constraints??
or at LEAST get the Congressional APPROVAL for any excesses PRIOR to commotion the USA TREASURY to pay of it in the future??
I am NOT an expert on these things -
I do think I am an average citizen with moral obligations that I revere - but with a patience that has been severely tested for the past 7O years - and I have forgiven those excesses up to this year - and NOW it am setting my foot down before I die.
so tell me - what debts are we not paying
I promise - I will not welch on an honest debt - I have provided you an INCREASE for what I think you have promised.
but I warn you - If you are asking for another 5-karat diamond ring to impress your new whore with - I WILL NOT PAY FOR THAT -- and you will be up to negotiating with your crack dealer for it.
OK??

It’s always like this. Next will be talks of shutting down the government and then last minute at midnight while everyone is asleep they will pass a bill!
Republicans are holding out for deals that put cash in their pockets they are not up there arguing for the American people.

We are currently paying them. When the Treasury runs of of money in June because it cannot continue to borrow anymore, we won't be paying anything at all.
No interest payments, no SS, no medicare, nothing.

All of the debt of the United States has already been approved by Congress. We are already obligated to pay this money--by the Congress.

They are already setting the narrative to lay blame on the R's and the media will report what they're told to.

However you want to word it. But you still pay it by the due date, right?
Or are you defaulting on your credit cards just to make a point to your kid? Of course you aren't.

The media will try. It may be hard to pull off given how badly the economy has been going under Biden, no matter how much they attempt to paper over it.
