Then you want a more free economy. Except youre discussing going the opposite direction.

Except you appear to be confused. Do people actually know what socialism is?

You have socialism and capitalism. Most countries are a mixed economy, like ours.

Our problem is that we have too little capitalism, not too much. The public/private cronyism is destroying our free markets.

Look at our problems - gas prices. This administration is doing everything it can to suppress oil supply at a time when we need to produce more.

Inflation - our government is printing money at a time when inflation has become a major issue.

Healthcare costs - when is the last time you chose a doctor or service based on price? We don't have any free market downward pressure on healthcare costs and they just spiral out of control. Lke oil, healthcare prices would adjust if given the chance to do so.

Not a fairness focus for me. Life/biology is inherently “unfair”. I am down with equal opportunity, not equal outcomes

It is a responsibility /leave it better than you got it mindset for me. Corrupt capitalism seems to me to create short sided, perverse incentives at times

The problem is we have antitrust legislation that isn't enforced.

They broke up Ma Bell, but they've let other corporations grow to big and now the competition is stifled.

Its crony corporatism.

Explain to me how socialism does this.

TIA.

I’m questioning the entire system because I no longer trust the things I have been taught over the years.

Maybe.

As I have become more strident in my desire to conserve nature I have begun to understand why so many enviros are left wing, and it is spilling out into other areas.

I don’t have the answer.

What in the hell does that have to do with socialism?

We have a mixed economy, you want less freedom and more monopoly.

So many enviros are left wing because they don't understand the role money plays in preservation. The poorest countries in the world are inevitably the least environmentally friendly. Don't take my word for it though. e.g., Look up the world's most polluted rivers. See how many wealthy/capitalist countries they traverse.

Someone who is wavering on capitalism ..

Define capitalism

Define socialism

What kind of economy do we have?

What industries do you want to see the Federal Govt sieze from private industry?

Everything we have in society today was designed to run in a moral society

What you have today isn’t running in that.

Because the world used to weed out the weak. We subsize them so they are thriving. The more you subsidize, the more they thrive and it becomes dynamic.

Its a race to the bottom. In a natural existence, we wouldn't be letting the bottom 20% drag the rest of us down.
Their own ineptitude would weed them out.

We all agree to some safety net, but ours is so heavy that we're sinking.

Capitalism is good. It's just that we have some weird shite mixed in with our capitalism. We've situations where monopolies work together with the government to hinder or prevent other people or groups from rising up and succeeding.

The United States is not capitalism. Not anymore. The government is too involved and we have a welfare state.

But yes, I believe capitalism is the best system.

China had to open a market economy and participate in foreign markets because their people were starving.

This, our government bailing out companies isn’t capitalism. Those companies should have failed and someone else take their market share

Hey do you like that stand of 200 year old hardwoods? Tough shite we are going to flatten them and build low quality apartments that will turn to trash soon

1. The US government created the quotas and price floors that led to sugar in the US costing much more than it does in Mexico, for instance. Ya know, to "protect" the sugar farmer, at the expense of everyone else. LINK / This *directly* led to the food industry's effort to find a lower cost substitute, in HFCS.

2. Are you arguing to cut down pine trees instead, or are you arguing that having an intact family leads to better maintained properties?

Ultimately we are not in a capitalist system, and cannot be with a federal government that added over 74,000 pages of rules, regulations, and guidance in 2021 ALONE. That doesn't include state lawmaking efforts, either.

There was also another thread about why New England is sitting on one of the largest natural gas deposits in the world, yet everyone in Boston, NYC, etc. are going to pay bonkers heating bills this year. Read that.

Start asking yourself questions like why you can't pay for Motrin you buy over the counter with a Medical Savings Account, but if you have a doctor write you a prescription for Motrin, you can pay for it with an MSA.

The land of the free is certainly a myth. We're not top tier when it comes to economic freedom rankings.

Its definitely far from free market.
