Some people don't realize that South America had it's own Cold War during and after WW2. Facist Dictatorships in Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil, and Chile were fighting not only Communists, but Foreign Intelligence Agencies running around all over South America. These Countries welcomed with open arms, Nazi Leaders, Businessmen, and Military all with warrants on them. Francisco Franco, the Catholic Church, and the International Red Cross changed identities and forged refugee documents, and these people originally flooded into Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil which already had Ethnic German communities in these Countries. Juan Peron and Arbedelaya in Uruguay had bounties on the these Foreign Agents and Freelance Nazi Hunters. How come the Nazis had to make such cool looking memorabilia? The most hated regime in history just had to make the coolest looking stuff and nobody could ever resurrect the symbolism or designs due to its association with them

And he visited his family in Germany multiple times in his later years. At least once under his own passport. His "research" didn't really come to light until the late 1960s, I believe. No one was looking for him before that
