Of course we should. What's the alternative? How does this war end if we dont negotiate peace? Either Ukraine is consumed by Russia or the west goes to war with Russia.

I find it baffling that our administration is paying Ukraine billions and billions for a war and not attempting to achieve a peace deal.

I am for it.
However, the United States of America is determined to wage war against Russia. There's really nothing anybody or any group of individuals can do about it, IMHO.
