You can appreciate her role of demonstrating civility and being proper. Manners goes a long way with me. Everyone should watch “The Crown” and “The Kings Speech”.

For anyone who enjoys studying history and isn't a total philistine, you would have to admit that Queen Elizabeth was a unique individual, regardless of how you feel about the institution of monarchy. She was the longest reigning monarch of a nation with well over a thousand years of history and tradition. Her reign came during one of the most tumultuous times of human history, and for about 80% of the population she was a constant; the only monarch of the UK that they knew. She has witnessed or participated in a great many number of historical events, and had met or been friends with some of the most famous (and infamous) people of our times. Even among other monarchs, she set the standard.

Even if you don't like her personally, don't like monarchy, or both, Queen Elizabeth II was a force in the world and her passing will be one of the major tick marks of history. Just the fact that the world will be a little different now should be appreciated, if even for only a moment.

She was really good at being a Queen. That being said, by the time her funeral is over I'm sure most Americans will be tired of hearing about the monarchy.

No. There are queens and kings all over the world. From an English historical point what she did to humanize the royals and restore the image of the monarch was truly epic. It will probably be a long time before they have another like her on the throne.

Plus she was a Baw queen, she loved to work on cars and trucks from an early age on.

I respect that she dedicated her life to serving the British public and didn’t budge at all when pressured to forgo tradition. It’s pretty incredible that we all lived during the longest reigning English monarchy in history. Considering how old that empire has been around.

I don’t understand the rednecks that yell “fUk DeM rOyUlS! 1776 bItChEs!!”

I mean you don't have to support the institution of the monarchy or be enamored with the royal family to have respect for the Queen. She served her country, crown, and people unselfishly for over 70 years and carried herself with enormous dignity. She committed her entire life to her duty and you just don't see that anymore.

Their whole point is tourism and they don’t acknowledge anyone that goes there. There’s no freedom and you can’t speak freely.

Ya some queen.

I don’t love the royal family. But I am fascinated by the history, the ceremony, and the grand nature of it all.

No, for her 'service' she lived a life of wealth, status, and luxury. I grew up in a crime ridden shithole.

I'd have happily taken her place and done the very best I could with her duties as well. Most of us would have.

ergo, don't give a shite that she's gone. Although I will say that without her the royals are in for some chinese curse-esque interesting times.

Yeah. 8 billion people currently living. It does feel incredible to be honest. Not sure how many died since she became Queen but I’m sure they felt incredible as well.

I think starting this thread wasn’t really necessary, but yeah, anyone who actually says they truly care about this is just looking for those correct thought points

I have no animosity towards her, but come on. It’s not as if her “duty” was digging a trench on the front lines. I know it had some downsides but she lived the life of royalty, literally.

She could have had a life of upper class privledge without all of the bullshite she had to put up with....constantly being controlled and dictated to...yeah its a gilded cage but she didn't ask for it yet accepeted and took on the responsibility and handled it with dignity on behalf of her people for 70 years.

Don't be a dick all the time.

I say this about the entire "Royal" family... Didn't we fight a war about 300 years ago to get away from them? And now most of America is ate up with them. I don't get it.

I care.. not on a personal level, but on the level of, I guess surrealism, if that makes sense. She is in every history book. She was a historical figure that stood firm for over 70 years. Western societies were evolving at a lightning pace. Several pillars rose up and then crumbled while she remained a constant. It's surreal that that constant is gone.
