Post of the year, and pretty much encapsulates and exemplifies exactly the perspective through which we should all be viewing these times.

The rot is deep. Trump has done and said some boneheaded things but his accomplishments outweigh the negatives. There are times when it becomes "cringe", sure, but that shouldn't truncate our peripheral vision. While Trump is forced into playing the game in many instances, he overall still stands in strong opposition of the Establishment Deep State- and the proof is right there for everyone to see, by looking at how they still treat him every day.

His 2.0 presidency is obviously more fueled by anger and desire for revenge—because he basically ignored all of that "Draining the Swamp" stuff his first go-round—and that's fine with me, I don't care what the motivation is to the degree that it's actually happening rather than just being talked about (which is questionable, but I digress), but the point in this discussion is that insider people not liking Trump doesn't at all necessarily mean it's because he is fighting for truth, justice, and the American way.

That's the point.

Populists have no guiding principles. Raise taxes over here, cut them over here. Talk about being a "no new wars" POTUS when that sounds good, bomb the frick out of Iran when that seems like a fun thing to do.

That's the whole point. Trump is, was, and will always be a mixed bag if your metric is the policies he supports.

Which is exactly why the logical, obvious, common sense response to him by people who do judge politicians by their policies is, "I voted for Trump in the general, but..."
