Nope. You can trick out that platform however you want, the mods you can do are nearly endless, that's why they are popular.

Mods to make them look cool.

Or more reliable, accurate, and versatile.

It's just not good optics and good politics if these events continue.

You think punishing millions of gun owners and millions of potential gun owners for the actions of a very few is good optics?

Functional mods like adjustable stocks, better grips, better trigger groups, optic mounts, can completely change to another caliber in seconds with just an assembled upper and moving two pins.

So you don't own any, despite how "cool" they look? Interesting...

Not really that interesting actually. I’m not a gun guy really. I more of a wanna be gangster anyway so I’d buy a pistol grip shot gun if I wanted to look cool.
If you are suggesting that ARs aren’t marketed as a pseudo-military toy for big boys then I’m sorry but you are wrong. They may have other benifits but they are sold on “sex” appeal.

I brought up the infamous Remington 700 bolt action with three round internal magazine to a person convinced the "Armor Lite 15" was the ultimate death machine. The dork was shocked a mere "standard" rifle could kill that many.

I'm simply telling you that this...

If the AR15 is functionally no different than a regular rifle then it is purchased because of the way it looks, correct?

...is incorrect.

Is that what the DC snipers used?

Well that’s fine but that isn’t what they OP is saying.
And you are being intellectually dishonest if you think that ARs are sold primarily because of their utilitarian value. Check out a gun mag and then check out Popular Woodworking. There is just a slight difference.

But age limits won’t do anything.

It has not even put a small dent in underage drinking. If some kid wants to kill people they are not going to be concerned with breaking more laws to get the weapon of their choice. There is not a kid over 15 years old that doesn't know how and where to get drugs, firearms will be no different.

Not sure, I was referring to Charles Whitman University of Texas 1966 14 killed 32 wounded, all with a three round magazine.

They are marketed as being the most customizable firearms platform available. Everything from full mall ninja to a Turbull custom.

You are dilluding yourself if you think 90% of people buy AR for function. You are like the guy who buys the $100k Range Rover and tells his wife all about the off road capabilities.
Humans make emotional decisions and then try to justify them later. I’m sure you’re different though.

Well I do carpentry and have built my own AR-15's, I get LOTS of gun and woodworking mags and if you are discounting the utility of the AR-15 and how many options are available they you are the intellectually dishonest one here.

That is literally the opposite of what we're discussing.

I drive a GMC. My wife is the one driving the $100k vehicle.

Yes, actually, I am. For better or for worse, I do everything I can to leave emotions out of my decisions and my positions.

Try your bullshite with someone else.

Right, so the 10 different magazines selling ARs and weapons as a “lifestyle” are all completely wrong about their target market. As I said, the AR may be the most bestest rifle ever made. They are still selling it based on military/tactical sex appeal.

It makes no difference to me. Law abiding citizens should buy what they want. It’s just funny to see full grown men in complete denial.
