An update on Benson's page says that the owner of the house who got the nasty letter is a Mexican-American single mother whose parents are legal immigrants.

That's not from "neighbors". That's from one count of a neighbor who thinks she speaks for the world.
She probably also patrols the neighborhood reporting folks to the HOA who have off-white window shades instead of white, and let their grass get longer than 2 inches.
Every neighborhood has at least one.
ETA : And like someone else said, if I got this note, I would double or triple up on my Trump yard signs.
