Heat index of 88. The request is full of garbage. You might not work during the day for the entire months of july and aug if an 88 heat index is the limit.

Oh, everyone in Angola has been convicted of a violent crime?

80-90% of inmates are there for life. You don't get sentenced to life in prison for tax fraud.

You
fricking
Criminals.

13th Amendment does NOT prohibit such involuntary servitude.

It is not cruel and unusual punishment under the 8th Amendment.

Get to fricking work!

This chick here…

I cannot believe you guys haven’t caught on to her shtick yet.

She gets absolute no attention at home. So, she runs to a conservative website to troll and get her attention from a bunch of men this way.

However that negative attention is, as well!

Hint hint: get a peloton.

I've never seen a white woman with as big of a prisoner fetish as she has.

She views them all as pure as the driven snow.

I agree in spirit, but in practice these guys get rushed to the ER and treated using your taxpayer dollars.

Provide clean water, shade and the occasional break.

But keep those hands working.

Problem solved.

Good. Hard labor should be brought back in all prisons. Deterrence is part of a successful criminal justice system.

Why are American recidivism rates so high then?

Then it looks like your claim about deterrence isn’t grounded in reality.

Because we have to let them out, unfortunately.

If prisons were run like boot camps, the reentry rate wouldn't be what it is now.

Because the stay there has no real deterrent to coming back

Just googling Angola prison deaths brought up this article which claims more than 500 people died in LA prisons between 2018-2022.

That’s all state prison deaths there are 8+1 (Winn is a private state prison).

These 500 deaths are comprised in order of most to least: medical issues (untreated sickle cell and diabetes make up a large part), suicide, drug overdose, accidents, and violent crime.

Deterrence didn’t matter when the persons at Angola committed their crime. Most knew of the consequences of committing their crime but did it anyway.
Angola houses inmates with sentences longer than 20 years, are security risks, or escape risks. In other words psychopaths and sociopaths. Very few of those inmates could make it on the outside. They need the prison structure.

Angola has been run like a working 19th century plantation since, well, the 19th century and continuously so.

Also, in addition to the VAST majority of its inmates (I'd easily put it above 95%) being "violent" offenders, very few inmates who are sent there will reenter society.

The work these inmates do is the best means there is for keeping the place in an overall state of basic order. Probably the worst thing you could ever do for these inmates and the people charged with overseeing them would be to have them do nothing all day.
