Will always be that way. The only “rights” anyone has are those they can personally protect with the use of force. Any other “right” can be taken from you by someone stronger or more able to project the needed force.

People can’t think anymore. Putin was not provoked into this war, Putin lusted for this war. OP is correct that America should tread more lightly in the region so as not to poke the bear, but OP should acknowledge that Ukraine is not a member of NATO nor was there serious conversations that they would be. Ukraine is the buffer. OP should also acknowledge that Putin has always been and always will be a sociopath and a murderer and that Russia has been poking the US and The West in return for decades. He has carried out assassinations on NATO soil for instance, done multiple black ops, cyber attacks, etc. As for US military involvement, of course not, we need to back the frick off. Deescalation from NATO , illegal Russian withdrawal from Ukrainian soil, and peace should be the goal of our foreign policy. We should give Mr Putin his respect and we should continue to give assurances that there will be no further NATO expansion .

Putin has gone from NATO to Nazis and drug addicts, to now full demilitarization if Ukraine.
I'm not totally sure he even knows what the objective is anymore.

The discussion was around sovereign countries, not whether had nukes are not. Answer the question, a sovereign country can do as they wish within their borders corrrect? |If so you should have no problem with hypersonic nukes in Cuba.

You started off making a couple of decent points -- then meandered into the above "bullsh*t" non-context virtue-signaling territory.
DOWN-VOTE.

Rueters (December): Biden assures Zelenskiy that NATO membership in Ukraine's hands, Kyiv says
quote:
U.S. President Joe Biden assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy that Kyiv's bid to join the NATO military alliance was in its own hands, Zelenskiy's chief of staff said after the two leaders spoke on Thursday.
Now, Zelenskiy may very well have purposely gotten out over his skis in saying this, but I can't find anywhere that Biden walked it back.
When Putin says "Don't do this", and you don't dispute that Ukraine was told they could, this is what happens.
May have happened anyway, but Finland survived the Cold War by knowing they could not provoke the Soviets.

The current CIA Director, William Burns [left], and a former CIA Director (and US Defense secretary), Robert Gates [right], both warned years ago, in the clearest terms, of the inevitable Russian response to any attempt to expand NATO to include Ukraine.
Are these two Putinists?
There ya go. Nice post and meme.
None other than US Intel chief warned that NATO expansion (attempt to make Ukraine THEIR de facto Vassal state from under Russia's nose) would only incite Putin, while infringing on what is clearly Russia's "sphere of influence".
Why can't people understand the simple geo-political common sense here?

There is some meat on this bone.
Finland didn't make a lotta noise while in the Soviet shadow -- while Sweden wisely played the "neutrality" card.
There used to be an expressed geopolitical understanding -- let's call it "courtesy & honor" among the world's Imperial "thieves"; To avoid this kind of provocation, The US would stay out of Russia's "sphere of influence" and Russia would stay out of the Western Hemisphere. (see Cuba missile crisis).
