I don't think they're naive at all. I think they very much understand that there is danger involved in what they're doing. What would you call it to go and provide aide to people even though you know it may cost you up to and including your life to do so? I'd call that bold courage.

Some certainly are. This couple likely wasn’t. His dad started the missions organization and had been in Haiti for quite some time. They were most likely acutely aware of the dangers.

I have always thought the exact same thing

My church is always asking for money to go overseas to help out and I refuse to support any of that

I’m sick of everybody putting other countries before ours. Meanwhile, our country is falling apart and becoming a dump

They were most likely more invested in the people they were helping than they were in the idea of their own safety.

A review of the website for the missionaries, Missions in Haiti, Inc., suggests that there were good people doing good work on a very local scale. Very sad.

Terrible. Time to ban travel there unfortunately.

Shouldn't need a travel ban common sense alone should have told them not to go there.

Here comes ole SM, the resident atheist of the board, dropping into yet another religious thread. Color me shocked.

Smart thinking. That’s what Jesus said. “Stay in your neighborhood, making disciples…l

Those same people can read a simple sentence from the Bible, claim that they believe the Bible, and will argue the opposite of what they read. Some people are too simple-minded or too brainwashed to be helped.

No. The likelihood of you understanding anything about their motives or beliefs is somewhere around zero.

You certainly aren’t very smart. So, I’m unclear why you’re trying to hold forth in this thread. Go out another Darwin fish bumper sticker on your 2006 Impala and leave us alone.

This is nonsensical. You should read up on what happened to Jesus' disciples. Missionaries are fully aware of what they could be getting themselves into.

But most forms of evil will never be stopped by love and faith alone.

Brother, this nation and most of the western world was settled amongst cannibalism, human sacrifice, burning people alive, racism and a host of other evils. We have come from tribes killing each other daily and raping anything left over to some semblance of law and order. It came to be by those who loved and cared. That evil has come to flourish so much now is largely due to indifference of decent people.

I'm one of them. God bless those two for they were far stronger than I will ever be.
