The two biggest components of gun violence are suicide and gang conflict.

I agree with you.

Worst civilian mass shooting was Norway (where even the cops are disarmed). Which is why it was so bad.

And we would have the added problem of trying to put toothpaste back in the tube.

this one isn't proven at all

There was a group of people whose eyewitnessed testimony was taken that says otherwise. Some will always deny what others say they saw and experienced in life about anything.

In recent history: You know there are even some people that don't believe that Republicans were/are against slavery.

It’s time to take a long hard look at social media.

There is too much content out there. The human brain (of these shooters) cannot decipher it all.

IMO the world would be a better place if there was no such thing as Facebook or Twitter. At this point in time it is just another avenue for people to spread hate.

The number one game for kids is a game where you try to kill 100 people every game

There is no solution. In a population of hundreds of millions there are always going to be evil people.

Find a system that teaches and enhances responsibility and respect while celebrating individual freedom and governmental restraint.

I've heard of this in the ancient text. Perhaps it will arise again one day.

That's not what I meant by "proven".

I mean, there's no evidence whatsoever in all of history that religion and belief in God eliminates men trying to kill each other.

And people like this guy aren't really mentally ill (or insane) in the legal sense most of the time. They aren't hearing voices and what not. They are just narcissists and psychopaths of which there is no cure. Combine that with a fricked up world view and being egged on by online radicals who tell them the world is coming apart and this is what you get.

Until the very end, when he was addicted to a huge number of pain killers and in the midst of a mental breakdown, Hitler would have passed a mental evaluation. Stalin, Mao, all the rest... they'd have passed it as well. Narcissism and a degree of sociopathy go hand in hand and a fairly decent segment of the population have both to some degree or another.

Lock up all the narcissists or people with a degree of sociopathy? There goes almost every politician in the United States, lawyers, bankers, doctors, and college football coaches. Hell, being a successful surgeon requires a degree of sociopathy or your empathy for the patient might distract you during surgery.

If we are going to reduce the number of mass shootings like this we are going to have remove certain types of guns from private ownership. If you support that then you get to come up with a way to enforce it. If you don't support that they you have to get used to having these types of incident happen.

I didn't buy into the whole video game thing but I have changed my mind. These guys growing up playing video games everyday where they are shooting and killing people over and over has to have a effect. People keep saying where nothing has changed from 30, 40, 50 years as far as laws and access to guns but yet we are getting these shootings. Well something has changed and that is these games where they are constanting killing people and being rewarded for it.

There are no mass shootings in Israel; and that place has been ripe for terrorist scenarios for years.

You will find heavily armed and well-trained guards all over public places. Wouldn't be an end-all solution in our cultural situation, but it would darn sure help deter punk sociopaths.

And I'm sure that there were many 'flags' in this particular shooter's life. We can all tell when someone is unstable and on the edge...moving toward something bad.

Trading Freedom for security. That's where this goes. Authoritarian governance in the pipeline. More a matter of which Ideology (Transnational Progressive v. Constitutional Principle) is at the top.

The solution is to go back to actually valuing life in all stages. A society that wantonly kills the innocent in society (unborn, sick, elderly) is not one that can stop these types of things from happening.

The truth is we have a large, societal issue and this won't go away. Hell, look at the knife attacks in places where guns are banned. Yes a knife is a less effective tool, but people are continuing to kill people.

Its not video games alone. These “kids” don't value human life. Human life is valuable because we are made in the image of God. When you are taught that we evolved from pond scum, that removes any semblance of objective value.

The first thing taken should be to ban any media outlets of naming the accused. Do not allow any recognition whatsoever to any shooter.

I feel like that would only make things a lot more fishy if you could never learn any details on mass murderers...

Same thing I said in the OT thread, this is so frustrating... gun ownership used to be much higher in this country and guns were part of the culture and were everywhere from westerns to kid shows and yet this never occurred. What changed? The media and dems will only come after 2nd amendment and will completely ignore root problems as to why this is happening.
