1) The charge of racism immediately shuts down legitimate debate in western society
2) Western values are being attacked. This includes values of individualism, merit, personal responsibility for yourself and your family. There are those that need these values to subside in order to seize more power and influence.
Who is "those"? This is a legitimate question without an easy answer. Human being desire power, especially once theyve acquired all the money they need to live whatever kind of lifestyle they want. Human history clearly shows this.
3) Some probably feel like an extreme response is needed to combat the extreme forces trying to destroy western values. There are folks like me who respect the cause of the South resisting the unfair practices of DC at the time even if we dont condone the practice of slavery. There were those that fought for the South even then that believed the same thing.
There are also people using flags and symbols as a banging gong to get attention. Someone with just a little discernment can easily tell the difference between the two.
4) I like statues and I love history. Should current day Rome pack up all artifacts out in the public to store in a big museum? Does all public art have to be PC stamped.
Plus, progressives are NEVER satisfied. Give in to Confederate statues and they will come for all other public art they can score feels or political points for. It is a slippery slope.
5) Probably because they are white. If you want a non-pc argument, its easy to make the historical argument that whites have built the most successful and prosperous civilization in modern times if we measure it according to western values.
Ethnic groups have been fighting wars since the dawn of human existence for superiority. To assume that this genetically embedded tendency is unfounded is just ignorance
What do I want as a conservative?
I want western values. I want a country, where if you have the will and are willing to take risks, you can achieve what you desire. I want a melting pot, not a mixed bag. If you dont like that, dont come here or leave if you already are.
Mixed bag results in strife and war. It always has and always will. I am not speaking of races but ideals. This is not the land of overbearing government. Its the land of people keeping govenment in check...even if they must fight a war over it

He wasn't a blip on the radar because the Alt-right movement wasn't relevant.
He's absolutely a leader of the alt-right. It's absolutely a racist movement. You can lie about or continue to use your incorrect definition of what the alt-right is, but Spencer is a big part of it.

the "alt-right" was similar to the "Tea Party" in that it meant different things to different people
just like the Tea Party clearly devolved into christian-conservative authoritarianism, the alt-right has devolved into identity politics

This. When I first started hearing the term "alt-right" last year, it encapsulated tons of different beliefs and ideologies. White nationalists and white supremacists were only a small part. You had anarcho-capitalists, protectionists, non-Libertarian party libertarians, classical British liberals who leaned socially conservative. Basically anyone on the right who was fed up with the GOP and didn't want to be a full blown Libertarian could have identified themselves as "Alt-Right".
That term, especially after this weekend, has crystalized into another name for white supremacy in the national debate, rightly or wrongly. I need to go look up the "Alt-Lite", but that seems to be where all those other previous members of the alt-right have fled to.

That's because many people didn't actually know what the alt-right was. It's always been about preserving white culture.
People got tricked into thinking they were alt-right thinking that it was just anti-establishment but really it's always been what it is now. People just didn't know.

I take this to mean that we bring manufacturing jobs back. That we move back to a time when we didn't identify as select groups, but as Americans first and foremost. That we don't practice divide and conquer in politics or anything else.

Why does any one group get to determine what others find important in their history? How do you know the men were racist? You are looking at history through a contemporary lens and failing to see that things were different then. It doesn't make slavery right, but it doesn't make it wrong then.

First. I am a non racist white male. So I cannot technically answer your question since you are asking white racist the question.
But as a thinking human being, I believe I can add to your understanding.
1-Racism rots the soul of the racist regardless of race. No Heaven points here!
2-Thousands of American white males died from the Bataan Death March to the end of the war at the hands of Japanese racist.
3-White males are disproportionately charged with hate crimes and suffer disproportionate enhanced punishment.
4- White males of equivalent accomplishments are disproportionately denied access to institutions of higher learning.
No good answer, but best guess is they are tired of being condemned unjustly. As a non racist white guy and a conservative, I am called a racist daily. Just like discrimination, it wears on one slowly but constantly.
I've seen this as well, but every flag has its own story.
1-Nazi flags,red Soviet type flags flags, Radical Muslim flags, Cuban flags, etc all suck!
2- Flags of heritage, Union Jacks, African flags, Irish flags, Honduran flags, Confederate flags, etc are ok.
3- Mexican flags are ok as in #2 unless they are being misappropriated as symbols of the Reconquesta.
4- Confederate flags are ok as in #2 unless they are being misappropriated as symbols of white hate groups. Historical note: The modern KKK was born in the MIDWEST in the early 1910s as an anti Catholic and Jewish group. The boys who fought under the Confederate Battle flag had been trying to kill those arse-holes ancestors just 50 years prior! When the KKK added blacks to the target of their stupidity it reinvaded the South. Fortunately they are insignificant boogie men today!
Sorry to pop your over simplified bubble here, but the world was almost universally racist in the 19th century! But to confine the dialogue to the USA, Southerners were really no more racist than Yankees. Even most supporters of abolishing slavery considered blacks inferior.
So if we are going to banish anything tainted by racism to the dusty back rooms of the museum let's start with Old Glory. The Stars and Stripes flew over more slaves for far longer than any other flag in North America!
We need a revamp of our money. Washington on the one, Jefferson on the two, and Jackson on the twenty were slave owners. Lincoln on the five was a racist. Hamilton on the ten, Grant on the fifty, and Franklin on the hundred all fought for or supported a slave nation.
We must take down all statues of all who were touched by racism, Woodrow Wilson, Margaret Sanger, and FDR (off the dime too, you Japanese internment sob).
The monuments must come down too. Stone Mountain, Crazy Horse, Mount Rushmore, the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Washington Monument, etc, etc, etc!
