Not long after Katrina pulled off I 10 in New Orleans east with broken water pump. Waiting for car to cool down in parking lot of destroyed convenience store two cars of young gentlemen pulled up blocking exits. Two got out, one with some kind of revolver. Had a 1911 in car and from cover yelled to halt. They took off. Scared f*** out of me.

The only time a permit holder should pull their ccw in public is in a situation to use it

Yes. I actually did not have my CCP yet but I was using my truck as an extension of my home. I was at the Amite racetrack getting gas late one night after an LSU football game and a man threatened me while i was getting gas. He was talking out of his head and I didnt understand him other than he wanted a ride and threatened me if i didnt give it to him. I calmly put the gas pump back and went to get in my truck and the man jumps in my back seat. My wife had already grabbed my 9mm and had it out for me on the center console. I turned around and stuck it in his face and told him to get the F out. Once he was looking down the barrel of my pistol he jumped out. I fully intended to shoot him especially if he came at my wife or my self and my finger was on the trigger slowly pulling it when he jumped out.
Apparently he had done the same thing to a woman before we got there and she had called the cops.
The police knew him by name and said he was a frequent flier. The guy even tried to sale drugs to the cops but they did nothing to him. they asked us and the woman if we wanted to press charges but said that it would do anything and he would be back on the streets. I didnt want to worry with going to court and crap and they just brought the man home.

A few times to not escalate further I've let it be known I have a weapon on me. All involving homeless people. Never actually pulled it, just shown I have it on me. That will almost always end a bad situation, immediately.

Once; but it wasn't an incident that I was directly involved with.
Got my CC when I took a new job and the office was in a pretty shitty part of the Northside in Pittsburgh. Got to work in the morning, pulled into the parking lot and got out of the car was walking toward the side door of the building. As I was getting close to the door about 30 feet away, on the other side of the parking lot, something went down, I don't know what happened, probably a drug deal that went bad. I hear two quick gunshots. I dipped around the corner of the building behind a brick wall and pulled my gun. Made it the 15 yards or so to the door and went in the office and someone had already called the police. Heart was pounding, hands were sweating, it was a pretty shitty spot to be in.

Pulled it no, put my hand on it getting ready, once in the French Quarters prior to Katrina. I don't remember if I even had the CCP back then or not.

This gets repeated a lot, but it's a silly concept and usually repeated by people who have never had to pull their gun.
Not everyone is confident in taking another life, even when it's justified to do so. There are plenty of situations that are deescalated when a gun is pulled that end without a shot being fired.
Is pulling your gun with the intent to hopefully diffuse the situation without having to fire a shot potentially dangerous? Absolutely, but some people are willing to take that risk if it means avoiding taking a life.

quote:The day of TX game was at the Denham's Sam club, this portly young man was checking out and it appeared he had a glock (could have been a water bottle) strapped on...don't know how he could have pulled it out...roll of fat was a canopy over his weapon he would have had to due a cross draw to hold the roll of fat up while drawing.

I had a crackhead try to pull me out of my truck at the Acadian Shell Station next to TJ's about 18 months ago.
I was getting back in after pumping gas and on the phone with a client. As I was shutting my door he rushed up and grabbed my left arm and started pulling me out. I dropped the phone and grabbed my GLock 19 with my right hand and put it in his face. I didn't want to kill the guy so I told him to back the frick up. He started throwing shite at my tuck at that point and started yelling kill me kill me. I called to Police and he ran off.
From that point on I will not get on the phone when I am at a gas station. Super aware of my surroundings. If I wouldn't have been armed that day he would have been able to steal my truck more than likely.

Never. And I never want to have to pull it because if I ever do shite has gone horribly wrong.

My bro had one of those giant revolvers you use for hog hunting, not sure the make but it was a giant piece, even had a scope for it.
One night someone pulled out in front of him and he honked at the idiot. Idiot jumps out of his car with hand at waist. Brother slows down so he doesn't hit the dude, but slowly pulls hand cannon out and taps it against his window. that poor kid about shite himself as he sprinted back to his piece of shite car and took off

This. I think some of this mentality comes from some of the shitty laws around the country. A CCW holder in Arkansas has a duty to retreat.

It's not just silly, it's dangerous. You should absolutely have the mindset that if you pull it you're prepared to use it. The time to sort all that out is beforehand, not when the adrenalin's flowing; that's why the military stresses drills for combat exercises. You don't think, you just do from muscle memory.
So make up your mind well ahead of time that if you have to pull the trigger, you will. But making up your mind ahead of time that if it comes out you're going to pull the trigger regardless is a good way to get charged with something you don't want to get charged with.

i walked away to keep from pulling it but the 2 thugs knew i had it. Made me realize how important it was to have my gun on me as well. I will not let thugs kick my arse like they are doing in Minnesota right now. I am too old and not going to let this happen.
