All new cars registered in Europe to have installed cameras filming the driver’s face.

The camera tracks the driver’s gaze, head movements and attention.

According to the regulations, the system must be active from 20 kilometers per hour. At lower speeds, it should be able to warn if the driver looks away for too long, while the requirements become stricter at higher speeds.

The requirement does not yet mean any obligation to record the driver for the authorities.

Critics warn that the technology could pave the way for more extensive monitoring and recording in the car once the cameras, sensors and software are installed.

We should also install cameras with audio in police station bullpens and all politicians offices as well then. The public can access the feeds in order to keep them accountable

No more confidentiality in talking to your passenger about the military aged men coming in to rape the country and its ppl.

Now they’re going to get caught talking about things that should be illegal.

It’s an Amish life for me when this inevitably happens over here.

I'm still scared of Covid. I mask up while driving. If it saves one life....

That's add another $1500-$2k to a vehicle.

Next -- Police are tracking "Captain Fid", in his vehicle, driving down 65.

Then it will be, "Let's slow that vehicle down and exit onto the shoulder" - Lt. Dan of the Alabaster Police Dept.

I think I'll keep my 22 year old Truck, as long as she runs... Thanks for asking though.

Just another long list of reasons to hate the EU. These people are insufferable.

I’d wear a full face motorcycle helmet and say that it is for safety.

I wonder what a 700mw green laser pointed at it would do or a piece of electrical tape for that matter.

Just another expensive and unnecessary feature in new cars that seems easily defeated by the sunglasses that most drivers wear.
