As someone who has two young girls, I can tell you that nearly 75% of all prenatal discussion is related to downs. I always wondered why we had to do all the testing because we were going to have the kid, love it and raise it regardless of downs.

OK, I'm going to inject some Singer here. He calls it 'net happiness.'

Studies have shown that healthy siblings say they felt neglected by their parents with a downs child.
Parents of downs kids said that they cancelled plans of having future children due to the burden of raising the downs child.
Therefore, the happiness of the prior children and the happiness of the non existent future children are diminished by whatever happiness the downs child experiences. It's a net loss for everyone.

And before you dismiss Peter Singer, I've seen him debate on stage on ethical issues when he was younger. There was nothing left of his opponent but a greasy spot.

You can be against abortion all you want but if you believe it should be illegal then you are an enemy of our quality of life and standard of living.

How about, Idgaf about his measure. Does one measure the character and fortitude and patience of the siblings once they are adults or just some superficial notion of what might have made them happier in the past?

People look for any justification to kill a baby.

Want to finish school, but got pregnant...? Kill the baby.

Too busy to look after a baby? Kill the baby.

Don't wanna be a parent? Kill the baby.

Too poor? Kill the baby.

Your parents don't approve of who knocked ya up? Kill the baby.

The baby may not be perfect? Kill the baby.


But then..after millions of babies are killed.. complain that the birth rate in America is too low, and we need to import third worlders, to shore up the numbers.
