I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this topic I heard on the Sean Hannity show. I caught the tail end of it so I didn't get to hear exactly what's going on with this. All I heard was there are some that feel that people with downs are a tax on society and feel that they should be aborted. Is this really happening frequently? How is this any different than Hitler trying to create a master race?

Yes it’s happening and it’s sickening. I beleive it was Iceland recently that made headlines as beingvthr first country in the world to declare itself Down Syndrome “Free”.

ETA: here it is...

quote:

Iceland has become the first nation to boast of total destruction of in-utero Down syndrome children. Obstetrician-gynecologist Peter McParland praised the move, according to Life Site. "In Iceland," the doctor said, "every single baby—100 percent of all those diagnosed with Down syndrome—are aborted," he said, adding, "There hasn't been a baby with Down syndrome born in Iceland in the past five years."

We as humans take care of our defective young. (Not being mean just speaking very bluntly)

Animals in the wild leave their defective young to die.

So here is the real question. Are we no different than animals in the wild, or are we above them.

Progressives are down with killing any baby, whether or not it has Downs.

I struggle with this one. I'm pro life but often wonder if quality of life should come into the equation.

Who's to say these babies are defective? People with downs are some of the kindest and most gentle people I have ever met in my life. It's sickening and barbaric.

Some people use birth defects as a justification for abortion

In China they'll abort a baby for it being female. I think the problem got so bad that China had to prevent gender screening. Not sure if that's still a thing there.

Ever met someone with Down Syndrome? I ask because if you had, you’d be equally disgusted as I am that’s anyone would abort a baby just for having Downs.

Like I said, I struggle with this topic.

Quality of life for the parents you mean? A person with downs knows no different so it basically boils down to the parents not wanting to "deal with it".

These two things are true:

a. Medical testing can detect a wide range of mental/physical defects in the 1st trimester.

b. Special needs kids are a huge financial burden on taxpayers.

People can come to their own conclusions about policy after accepting these 2 truths.

Uh, because it has nothing to do with race.

How can it’s be a struggle? My wife has a cousin that has Downs. The girl is 7 and one of the most kind hearted, joyful, happy child that I’ve ever met. The idea that the world would be better off if she’d have never been born is beyond reprehensible. It’s pure evil.

That's not always been true from a historical perspective. That's not even true now in all cultures. In Sparta, children with birth defects were left to die to try and keep the gene pool strong.

Eugenics is just science enabling society to pick and choose what the next generation looks like.

We can argue about the morality of it from a modern perspective, from a religious perspective, etc, but we cannot pretend like this is a truly alien practice for human kind.

Not necessarily. When the parents are dead, these people will still require care. If they don't have anyone to help care for them, they may end up in some not so good circumstances.

Right. But people with certain afflictions were killed during the holocaust specifically for that reason.

If you want to play your little cute semantics game with the topic of genocide by my guest.

I agree in general but I also see that chances are they will never have a gf/bf, never be able to get married, never, have a job/career, etc. In short, they can’t live a full life.

Would you be happy if you had been an outcast your entire life?

I get what you're saying. It's just something I don't have a firm opinion on yet.

You’re not the first to use this argument. Mr. Gobbles thought the same thing.
