Are you a Southerner first or an American first? Service to Country means the whole country, good parts and bad parts.

Capturing and displaying battle standards is US tradition going back to the revolution. At West Point, the earliest captured British battle standard is on display. Captured confederate cannons are on display.

The makeup of all the armed forces is disproportionally white and Southern.
It will be interesting to see what effect this has on future recruitment. Not just this but the overall liberalization of our military.
I wont let my son join the armed forces. It no longer represents us. I wont let any of my blood risk their life for a country that now hates them.

The British Military is full of them. It's "The British Army" instead of the Royal Army (as opposed to the RAF and Royal Navy), to honor Cromwell's New Model Army that defeated King Charles royalist forces, even though the crown returned and abolished the Republic. Cromwell, a freakin' Regicide, still has statues in his honor in the UK as a unification gesture. The whole tradition in England has been that if you fought honorably in the sight of God for your love of England, that you deserved honor. This goes back a long way, past the War of the Roses. The Brits named a bomber (the Lancaster) for the losing house in that civil war.

We Southerns have historically been distrustful of the Union and of outsiders. If the past 3 years is any indication of the next 30, I expect a retreat to our insular ways, though on a much reduced battlefield and with Nouveau Riche metropolises in our midst.
Virginia was the first domino. Soon enough, it'll be Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina.
The Southern man is an anachronism, misplaced in time.
Fortify yourself, your family, and your community. Make peace with the future, because change is coming and no amount of money or blood is going to stop it.

Truth. I suppose it’s out of general patriotism. Where my patience is running thin is with the crowd that vomits the word “traitors” around about the men who raised arms for their southern homes. Idiots. Secession was absolutely an option then. Lincoln bastardized the constitution in several ways to preserve the money train for some yankee traders. Bought with southern blood. They never let the discussion run to what Lincoln and the majority of his compatriots thought of slavery. Mother frickers would have shipped in slaves to keep the money rolling. The nerve of some of these bastards to claim some kind of moral high ground regarding the War of Northern Agression.

If you are insinuating that Texas abandons it’s southern roots and joins the rest of the country, I hope they drag Louisiana along with them. I don’t really feel like being uprooted at my age.
