A post-mortem of last night

1. Iran. This was easily the biggest driver last night. Exit polls had 60% saying Iran was the wrong call, and 74% called it a major factor in their vote. Messy, seat-of-the-pants handling of the war plus a public being fed contradictory talking points (Iran was close to a nuke, but also we wiped everything out a year ago, and if you doubt either one you're "fake news") is a recipe for getting crushed.
2. Affordability. This goes hand in hand with #1. Fuel prices are up, tariffs haven't helped, spending is out of control, and the people feeling it are told either that it's temporary and good for them long term, or worse, that their struggles are imaginary. Republicans fell into the same trap Biden did: insisting the economy is great and telling people not to believe their own eyes when they're hurting. Hits like "I don't want to drive housing prices down, I want to drive housing prices up" will get you slaughtered.
3. "Love the policy, hate the execution." This ties into a general sense of incompetence around Trump 2.0. People want border security. They want election security. They don't want their daughters competing against men. They're not even against nice shiny upgrades to public facilities. What they don't want is all of it done in a ham-fisted way. From the ICE raids to the reflecting pool renovation to election reform, everything feels like it was handed to the lowest bidder, and the chaos around it amplified that feeling. Look at North Carolina. They voted 60-40 in favor of voter ID and lower taxes, but also 60-40 for the Democratic candidate. In Les Miles' words "the want" is there, we just need the right personnel.
Last night was a rejection of ineptitude, whether real or perceived. The "well, what are the Dems going to do about it?" response misses the point. When things feel bad, you don't always need a fleshed-out plan to win people over. Enough voters were willing to give the other side a shot because they felt unheard. Meanwhile, the most ardent MAGA supporters wouldn't entertain any criticism and just threw out catchphrases like "TDS" or "panican!"
I posted this over a year ago, after the '25 special elections, and was proven right last night:

This is what I'm trying to get across to people after last night. Yeah it may not be a bellwether for anything on its own, but the fact that MAGA/AF is predicated on 1. Having Trump on the ballot 2. Requiring high/motivated turnout due to its populist nature, is a bad combination for midterms and 2028. Combine that with the fact that the administration's actions lately have been very much focused on "we're doing what we want, it's going to hurt, you'll get over it," you're running the risk of the winds shifting very quickly out of your sails. MAGA is currently walking a very thin tightrope of high risk, high reward politics and it only takes one misstep to have that tide turn on you.

Just lie back and enjoy it.

I’m just curious …..out of all the people that voted yesterday in America and early voters as well. ….How many of them do you really think understand the complexity of the Iran war situation ???????
I consider myself an educated voter and even I don’t get it. I know they don’t like us they chant death to America so therefore, in my opinion, our government and president should do everything in his power to stop them because I want to live more than I want to die.
Period

Trump thought that the things he was doing would benefit the country in the long run and that there was enough intelligent people to realize it, and be a little patient.
HE WAS WRONG. BIGLY WRONG.
The TikTok Twerkers and Social Media bots appealed to “I Wants Mine NOW.”

See this is where you Fd up
It’s OK to be stupid but to be stupid and then motivated to go vote that’s a danger situation for this country.

Maybe listen to your own intelligence people instead of Israel's.
MAGA is dead. It committed a seppuku without honor on zionism's behalf.

He severely overestimated the cost/benefit of tariffs. He was convinced that it would bring large amounts of manufacturing back to the US immediately, and it hasn't. Maybe if they were in place for 20 years or more it might, but you don't build new factories in two years.
The economy is too global, and companies know that they can still make higher profits by keeping manufacturing offshore and either eating the cost of the tariffs or passing some percentage on to the consumer.
The fact that the tariffs were so schizophrenicly added and removed and paused shows that there wasn't a real plan in place and it was all reactionary. The tariffs that were impacting Maine suddenly disappeared a few weeks ago to try to boost Collins. Look at Trump's favorabilty rating. It crossed into the negative right at the time the "Liberation Day" tariffs took effect.

Iran is a tar baby. There's a reason no one had gotten into it with them before Trump. They're run by backwards cave people who welcome death and don't give a shite if their population suffers for their actions. They have the ability and willpower to fight an asymmetrical war and cause maximum chaos. There is no "winning" without enormous cost to us. Midnight Hammer should've been the end of it, but then we got roped in and 1984'd the idea that we decimated their nuclear program.

Actually I think asking what Dems are gonna do about it is the entire point of an election. Anyone who voted for a conservative ballot measure AND a Democrat poltician is a moron of the highest order. Enjoy your tax increases and cultural genocide from a party that despises you.

Trump has been doing a fantastic job. Last night proved stupid people are a majority. Nothing more. They'll pretend they don't remember it when the socialists take away what's left of their property rights because they didn't like toppling an oppressive regime.

Most sane people agree with this. Affordability is a real issue, telling people they are lazy for bringing it up isn’t smart.

The ones with their heads in the sand are the ones who believe Trump has been doing a poor job. It simply isn't reality.

Important fact. A lot of what Trump was doing was for the long haul, and he was counting on the voters to recognize it. He misread the population.

Our own Intelligence told him not to go into Iran. He said “They’re wrong” when pressed about it. His judgement has always been poor

I don't know, how complex is it?

Dang, that is complex. Took you a while to figure it out too I bet.

Trump's problem is he thinks of things that matter to him matter to. Joe blow the uneducated, dude, pulling the lever in the election and trump's main problem is when he says stupid s*** like affordability is a hoax, it p***** off the people that can't pay their bills

Affordability is a real issue
The Party that offers solutions, whether the solutions will work or not, will win elections going forward.
Iran will fade, Epstein will fade, Trans issues will fade.
The cost of living is the driver when a large section of the population is getting hit with inflation, unaffordable housing, student debt, etc..
It does not matter who caused all of those things. They do not care.
They want a remedy and if the only option be presented is socialism, they will take it.
