You forgot to mention that McAuliffe went out of his way to make sure that he said he would continue restrictions and mandates. He made himself the candidate representing those things. Those things are not popular.
By the way, I truly hope the Democratic Party convinces itself that CRT is the only reason that it lost. That will lose them elections in 2022 and in 2024.

You haven't learned any lessons at all. This is precisely how McAuliffe and his supporters (notably Obama) campaigned. And they lost.
