Let’s start a trade war with the entire world, cause harm to my economy and destroy relationships and agreements with our allies when our true intentions were to get those dirty Chinamen all along? Why not just start there?

I think there are other goals, such as getting fair trade with the rest of the world. Trump took the position that he was ready to drive the entire world into disastrous recession if they did not agree to start playing fair. He will win this because he’s right.

When China is hit with revaluation of its currency they will strike out harshly, most likely with that Taiwan move as to take population focus off negative governance.

I’m no expert on the military readiness of China and Taiwan, but my understanding from reading folks who are is that China is not ready for that conflict.

personally think Trump has an unspoken vendetta against China for unleashing Covid

I also think he wants to crush China for covid and other items. I'm guessing that he may have information of their election meddling and certainly for their unethical business tactics.

Maybe yes, maybe no. Over 70 countries are going to use the 90 day pause to renegotiate our trade agreements. Some will come to fruition and we'll have an agreement. Some may be close to agreement, but need more time. Some will still stubbornly want to fight, and Trump will start the process again with them. The difference with the second round is that there will be no renegotiating anytime soon. Second round gets some real pain.
I'm guessing part of the current negotiations with the willing countries is to help provide or supplement trade that will be lost or become expensive from the stubbon countries, i.e. China.
Try to keep up, it's not rocket surgery.

Bold of you to assume he won’t change his mind again, err follow the real real plan all along, before 90 days.

You're a reader. Have you read "Art of the Deal"?

Not yet. That doesn't really align with my interests, but I'm not opposed to reading it.

They’re not ready for what would happen if Trump is able to succeed in this quest

Some basics:

1. Think big
“I like thinking big. I always have. To me it’s very simple: if you’re going to be thinking anyway, you might as well think big.”

2. Protect the downside and the upside will take care of itself
“I always go into the deal anticipating the worst. If you plan for the worst–if you can live with the worst–the good will always take care of itself.”

3. Maximize the options
“I never get too attached to one deal or one approach…I keep a lot of balls in the air, because most deals fall out, no matter how promising they seem at first.”

4. Know your market
“I like to think that I have that instinct. That’s why I don’t hire a lot of number-crunchers, and I don’t trust fancy marketing surveys. I do my own surveys and draw my own conclusions.”

5. Use your leverage
“The worst thing you can possibly do in a deal is seem desperate to make it. That makes the other guy smell blood, and then you’re dead.”

6. Get the word out
“One thing I’ve learned about the press is that they’re always hungry for a good story, and the more sensational the better…The point is that if you are a little different, a little outrageous, or if you do things that are bold or controversial, the press is going to write about you.”

7. Fight back
“In most cases I’m very easy to get along with. I’m very good to people who are good to me. But when people treat me badly or unfairly or try to take advantage of me, my general attitude, all my life, has been to fight back very hard.”

#3 Maximize the options goes to the crux of your observations.

This is a good move, politically and economically.

Focus on China
agreed... but with a caveat: EU must be dealt with simultaneously. The EU retaliating and not negotiating is a problem.

But we have even more leverage over them; they just don't want to admit it to themselves. Not worried, just noting that will have to be done to truly isolate China sooner (by Sept.?) rather than later.

My guess Trump is saving the next card, whatever it may be, to play against EU till after congress gets done with budget [cuts] and taxes.

How does it feel to be even more stupid than Karoline Leavitt. At least she's getting paid to spread this lie.
