As we know it is still going great guns; the commanding general in Afghanistan wants more troops to redress the situation there. We have had as many as 130,000 troops in Afghanistan and zero success. It is a scam; we all see it. But it wasn’t a scam until after World War Two.

O.K. Government/military/media didn't become corrupt until the 1950s. Got it.

Again, going back to the Fredericksburg museum. There is a display of personal items of on American marine. He was captured, can't recall if he was part of the Bataan March or not, but he ended up in a camp and was beaten. When the camp was overtaken or the Japanese surrendered the commander killed himself. This American took the fricking Kindo stick that this guy used to beat him and others with. Just really stood out to me. I wouldn't want that fricker in my house staring at me. Maybe use it to kill spider and shite around the house or plumbing work.

Think they were pretty damned determined and fanatical. Not to mention, weren't they finding guys into the 1950's on remote islands in the pacific still "on duty" never having known the war was over? Or were those just tall tales?

Hiroo Onoda refused to surrender until 1974, as did Teruo Nakamura. Onoda never technically surrendered either - a man found him while carrying orders from his former commanding officer relieving him of duty.

I'm pretty sure most of the southeastern and midwestern part of the country will be saying that if California gets hit by a nuke. And when we're done laughing we'll hit North Korea one hundred fold.

So when youre done laughing at countrymen dying then you'll pretend to be a patriot?

Wonder if you would feel the same way if NK or another country hits us with one.

If we had attempted genocide on them the way the Japs did against the Chinese we couldn't complain much.

Geared up for 8 pages of idiots saying the bombs didn't save more lives than they took.

Don't start none, won't be none.

Yeah these idiots always pop up. My dad was at Okinawa, and after things settled down there he was given written orders to report for a full-scale invasion of the main island of Japan, then they dropped the bombs. If the bombs weren't dropped and the invasion happened thousands more allied troops as well as Japanese civilians would have perished. The Emperor had them ready to fight down to the last man, woman and child.

Yep. And I'll start pretending to be a patriot on the same day you start learning how to detect sarcasm/dark humor over the internet.

Doing dark humor is fine. Youre just missing the humor part.

That is correct. You can see that in the fact that to deal with the challenge of World War Two, the US military and government mobilized a huge force which was ready by about 1/1/44. They then crushed the frick out of the Germans and Japanese in about a year. Then they demobilized this huge force and went back to the status quo.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. The japs treated our marines as our elite fighting force. They beheaded lots of marines with machetes and tortured others.

After working with many WWII Marines, I believe their hatred of the japs was justified.

My wife's grandfather was a Marine on Iwo Jima. 3 weeks after the island was taken he was on patrol and a Japanese solider who had no gun or knife attacked him with a tree root.

A fricking tree root.

He said he was very surprised that they surrendered after the second nuke. He thought even that would not make them give up.
