Absolutely.

You can’t expect to engage kids in education when you are (I argue that it’s done purposefully at a high level) failing to teach them to read.

If you can’t read, you can’t pass a test. You can’t read a math problem. You can’t pass science. Social studies might as well be Swahili.

And we’ve been telling kids to guess at the words and use the pictures to learn how to read for so many years that we should be embarrassed.

Louisiana and Mississippi are kicking arse by not doing this and going back to the old ways.

The 'Convergence' nears, wherein AI can be melded with Human Intelligence. Elon predicted 2030. Those dumb children can then be implanted with chips which educate them to levels that cannot be taught or learned. Am I wrong, or is this the possible future?

If so, I guess the question then becomes, what do those highly intelligent people do with their power, and/or what does the power do to them. And us.

Stupid is as stupid does. We have way too many stupid administrators infected with stupid ideologically based ideas.

Meanwhile in the red states the MS and now what should be called Dixie miracle is underway where you see direct improvement in literacy and math scores due to teaching kids like they did in the 1980s, failing kids who fail to make the cut and giving teachers training on how to teach not how to be ideological.

One good thing about the woke/blue state model is that is is driving good people out and the red states are going to gain capability over time.

My nephew in MS was a very poor student. Not a dummy, but he was only interested in sports and the schools let him drift through.

My sister sent him to a Victorian era like sleep away program that had all kinds of sports facilities. He didn't do well so he lost his access to sports, late night snacks, and was required to have supervised study for 2 hours or so every night.

He got his grades up to A's and B's. After a year he went back to his public school and found it to be very easy. After a while, he drifted back to his old bad habits.

No stupid kid is gonna retake tests over and over and over.

Instead it will be the smart kids that get. 94 and they will want a 100.

So what is the solution to this problem that a school system could actually do?

Unlimited test retakes - No zeros for missing work - No homework, homework’s is excluded from final grades - No late penalties - No required participation

So no consequences or responsibilities just do whatever. That’ll really help prepare kids for the real world

Equitable Grading means American students will have

- Unlimited test retakes
- No zeros for missing work
- No homework, homework’s is excluded from final grades
- No late penalties
- No required participation
This isn't equitable. It's cruelty to those that want to learn.

So basically, you're telling me that Nikki Minaj clones will be validectorians.

Well that's going to be entertaining, if nothing else.

care. So what is the solution? We can’t expel the bottom 20% of students,

We absolutely can. We lack the will.

School is not supposed to be glorified babysitting but that’s exactly what it’s become.

My wife is a public school teacher. In 4 years she has had one expulsion.

I don't believe this b/c it wouldn't be going on under the Trump administration. And even in the thick of Obama or Biden administrations, the numbers wouldn't be over 50%. Maybe 10% at the most
