I think it should only go to guys who's injuries were a result of hostile enemy fire. PTSD is real, but it too should only go to guys who saw combat.
If that becomes the criteria, then a lot of this would be cut out and most of these guys wouldn't qualify.

Correct. But the PACT Act gets abused by fraud "reps". The PACT Act includes those who served in an area that has poor air quality. Kuwait is one of those places due to the oil refineries. Oil refineries produce a lot of nitrogen dioxide, but that nitrogen dioxide stays pretty localized. However, when the winds blow, especially south and southwest, that nitrogen dioxide blows over Camp Arafjan and KNB. It's only brief, but it's enough to make the claim (and it's BS), and it's very hard to disprove.
The PACT Act was needed, but it left some loopholes that are getting exploited.

I do know a veteran who gets full disability benefits for sleep apnea.

A good amount of the casualties and injuries in the recent US wars came from friendly fire, faulty equipment, accidents, etc, are you saying the government shouldn't be on the hook for those?

I don't know what degree of benefits he gets, but I know a guy who gets them for sleep paralysis.

Just like everything else the gov’t subsidizes, you get more of it. Unfortunately, this is the third rail of American politics. You can’t touch anything military related and not be labeled ‘unAmerican’ or worse.

Not at all, most disabled vets are drawing around the 40% mark. 18.45% get 100%. 17.3 get 10%. 5.69% get 50%. With about .50% getting 0%. Then the rest are those in the 30-40% area.
40% gets you $774 a month.

The group of veterans i hang out with,talk about this openly. They all have some sort of imaginary disability. No shame or remorse in gaming the system for them.

There may be some out there “taking advantage” as it were - but I can think of plenty of other avenues of fraud and abuse this country should easily being going after and addressing way before it would consider looking at veteran disability.
Seriously, all the shite we learn about on a weekly basis ….. and we’d be wanting to talk about our veterans before we’ve even remotely began to take care of all the other crap going on?

Agree. And it's complete bullshite. I'm a federal agent and I work with at least 5 dudes who are 100% disabled, making tax free bank. I ask them all the time- if you're 100% disabled, how are you kicking down doors with me twice a week? They laugh about it.

Disability is really the wrong word for it; medical compensation is a better term.
Not that that makes the situation you describe any better. I'd be really curious what they qualified for.

Correct. I know a guy that shot himself in the foot, he was fricking around and literally aimed at his foot and fired. He claimed he didn't know the weapon was loaded (how the hell do you not know it's loaded?). Anyway, denied.

Yeah they try and get disability for everything. Tried to claim everything was from Agent Orange
