This info is misleading.
A majority of the money is the same.
Lets take 1,000 retirement as an even number.
If you retire you get 1,000.
If you are 20% disabled scenario:
You get 800 retirement
You get 200 disability
The only advantage is the 200 isn’t taxed.
They come from 2 different funds, retirement and VA. If they got 0% disability then retirement would be 1000 vs 800
They take out the disability amount from your retirement. Unless you are 100% then you get both

I know many who abuse it. Hell I know some that have handicapped license plates for all their family vehicles when not one is unable to walk. One of them is playing basketball frequently but has been receiving disability for years after shredding his knee on base horse playing a month before he was to retire. Has made me lose a lot of respect for them.
Makes me mad because I could abuse it as well but choose not to. I guess I have a conscience or principles I don’t know.
Needs to be clamped down on big time.

i know someone who joined the army in his early 30's, got hurt in basic and got an honorable discharge and disability benefits. army paid for his college too.

I think it should only go to guys who's injuries were a result of hostile enemy fire. PTSD is real, but it too should only go to guys who saw combat.
If that becomes the criteria, then a lot of this would be cut out and most of these guys wouldn't qualify.

The overwhelming majority of military personnel on disability are not combat soldiers anymore. They’re slapdicks that worked in the office or logistics and claim ptsd for bullshite.

I didn't know I had to list my ratings in a discussion about the percentage of veterans with a rating.

Thats a fricking crime, imo. I'm telling you, they arent disabled. Now they all use ptsd, etc

I will, I'm 100% P&T. I've said a few times in this very thread that there's fraud. My stance is that if you're legit, then you don't have to worry about an audit. To me, be my guest, I'm safe.
