There are companies whose entire business model is helping veterans file fake disability claims. It's amazing how many people I served with who magically came away with tinnitus. That's a popular one because it's really hard to disprove.
OP is right. This is definitely a huge problem that is not discussed nearly enough.

OP has reminded me I need to get off my lazy arse and go file for my VA benefits. I’m leaving a lot of money on the table.

We'll just say someone very close to me:
Was in one branch of the military (where dumb people go so I'm sure you can figure that out) used to drive drunk all the time and MP's would let this person get away with it all the mf'ing time.
Well, one day this person decides to put their truck between two trees and fractured this person's hip.
Less than one year of "service" to the military and guess what - 100% disability and $4K/month...........for life.
So basically, the military has paid this person to be a drunk, get in wrecks and get a lifetime supply of $$ for doing next to nothing.

PTSD can not be easily faked.
The diagnostic protocol is pretty rigorous…

No one that is a FOBBIT should be getting PTSD Disability, that's a 70%er outright.

No one has the balls to touch this. Just like no one has the balls to touch Social Security post W Bush attempt.

Many jobs are just ordinary jobs.
Is a military IT job harder than a normal IT job? My job exists in the military. I can't imagine it being more difficult than mine is. I probably deal with more dangerous materials now. Being serious.. what's the difference?
Not every job in the military is guns and front lines..
My wife family is all military. Every one of them claims disability.
But yeah, speaking up on this is a no no.

I am sure there is abuse, who is going to go after Veterans?

Nobody gonna touch it. I'm sure we all know former military that have zero business getting a disability check.

You literally just lumped it in with "Welfare scam"
Go ahead and add social security benefits as well.

No. Just stop if you don't know what you are talking about.

One thing about VA disability that is different from social security disability, you can collect 100% of VA disability and still work full time. Graham Platner is a 100% disabled vet and if he would have won the senate race, he would have collected his disability and received a senator’s salary.
It’s an easy dishonest grift for vets to collect if they choose to.

I agree that there are tons of POGs and Fobbits that have milked the system.
I watched a whole brigade support battalion get awarded the combat action badge for like 3 107mm rockets that landed within a klick of the the FoB.
True story.

Dude, I know people who make six figures (airline pilots) who collect disability.
It's a total fricking scam.

There was a girl I worked with at a pizza joint back in my early 20's who was in the national guard. She was was not a bright person with very little going for her.
She was deployed to Bagram for 6 months as I recall. Came home and got on disability for PTSD. She never left Bagram at any point in her deployment. Apparently claimed incoming mortar fire the base took caused her to have PTSD. Absolute total bullshite. I don't recall what her benefits were but I do remember being shocked what she was getting to sit on her arse all day with her "PTSD."
It's a total slap in the face to our vets who genuinely deserve aid for injuries or real PTSD. You would have to be extraordinarily naive to think the same types who scam welfare aren't in military ranks with the same attitude.

I have several friends that served, they all openly admit disability fraud is rampant and openly promoted by a lot of VA workers.

Ben Shapiro and MAGA, evidently. Two years ago a leftist economist wrote an opinion piece in the WSJ blasting the VA. More recently, Ben Shapiro has discussed gutting VA benefits in favor of, you guessed it, more foreign military aid.
