At the confluence of the Ohio with the Mississippi River is a town named Cairo, Illinois. An absolute hellhole. No new investment, abandoned houses, large areas of blight and population leaving. A few miles up and across the river is prosperous Paducah, KY. You see this along the border of every state with Illinois. Why?
Illinois is poorly run, over taxed and underserved by its government. Left wing policies create disincentives and promote stagnation or regress. The bordering states have lower taxes, regulations and actually have representation in their legislatures for rural areas. They are America and Illinois is East Germany.

I lived in Central Il 2010-2018. Chicago is a cancer. The rest of the state tolerates it. We managed to get a republican senator in 2016 (He was no better than a democrat) and a Governor in 2014 (he couldn't prevail against Chicago). Both were one termers.

Already has in Oregon.
If the DSA were to get there wish and eliminate the Senate and make the President an unelected office, the big cities would dominate our country's policies.
We would end up like Hunger Games...

I have a very good friend who owns a farm in Springfield IL and I can tell you they can't stand the shite going on in Chicago. It's like 2 different worlds.
I had a golfing buddy who said the same thing about Minnesota. He left the farming town he grew up in because the state was run by leftists in Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Are any of those big agricultural counties? Fay Boy Pritzker will be mad about the food loss.

Well, I'm not very successful at catching it when autocorrect changes my words.

This is nothing new in Illinois. Same thing was going on about 15 years ago. Southern Illinois has oil fields and there was a big bush to get them leased and to start producing. The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the State House threw up roadblock after roadblock into getting the leasesdone even on private land .It started with "environmental concerns" about fracking, then concerns about pools and units, etc.
Then there was a meeting in Fairfield in the Southeastern part of the state where Madigan the head of the Senate wrote out a number that he presented to the oil companies that he intimated would make it all go away. It went away, exploration and leasing stopped. Madigan and the other guy were from......Chicagoland .

Most folks aren't successful when trying to secede.

Lots of them.
Dividing a state under our laws is a pipe dream due to the legal and constitutional hurdles. So the simple answer is for individuals to pack up and leave for a red state.
But that solution wont fly if you are tethered to the actual land. And there is some really good dirt in southern Illinois so a lot of these people are trapped in an unwinnable situation. See also, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

Be easier for conservatives to win the state back than secession as a war would basically need taken place

The south of ILLINOIS, you dolt.
You know? The topic of this thread?

Reynolds v Sims destroyed state governments and ensured that large cities dominate rural counties.

You can vote yourself in, but you will have to shoot your way out.
