To address your full comment, it is crazy how we went from a unified nation set against the world to THIS now.

I was off that day and slept in. I woke up and turned the TV on in time to see the first tower on fire. The plane hit the second tower shortly after.

I called the girl I was dating at the time. She was already watching it. Her parents lived in DC where her dad worked for a lobbying firm. He was driving to the Capitol that morning and saw the smoke from the Pentagon.

Her parents were pretty well connected and heard all kinds of rumors in the following weeks. A lot of them had to do with Russian suitcase nukes that AQ had supposedly gotten possession of.

Her parents were at an event one night where George Bush and Colin Powell were supposed to speak. Their security details suddenly hustled them both out and the MC announced the event was canceled. That freaked everybody right the frick out.

Freshman at Auburn and my brother/roommate woke me up and told me we were at war. He had just gotten up seen the pentagon had been hit.

Little trivia but AU and LSU were supposed to play that weekend but got moved till end of the season and yall smoked us.

Did get to see first football game in state of NY after 9/11…. flew up the week after to Syracuse and it was quite a scene. George Pataki was there with what seemed like a hole marine division for security.

Not not to mention how much the airport looks like a Ghost Town

I was on approach to Newark airport on an AirTran flight when the first strike occurred . By the time I landed and got to the 52nd street bridge, I could see the 2nd tower had been struck. …. the start of a very surreal day and week in Manhattan.

I’ll never forgets some of the things I saw and experienced….. very gut wrenching.

First heard about it turning into the new parking lot (old golf course) across the street from the CEBA building at LSU. Pulled into a spot and sat in my car listening to the radio for a minute or two. Then I walked to a computer lab to get more information online.

Being a member of the Louisiana Army National Guard at the time, I was thinking, "Well, we're probably going to war and I may get sent somewhere."

Interestingly, I wasn't very concerned about getting mobilized. I don't know why. I don't recall thinking much about it. I was more tuned in to the news, the patriotism, the realization that what was happening was significant.

At the time I was a bond trader in Memphis. I was sitting at my desk on the trading floor when the red headline came across my Bloomberg saying a passenger plane had struck one of the towers.

One of the other traders down the floor was on the phone with a very good friend who was in the top of the tower. While they were talking the phone went dead. He tried to get him back on the phone and finally got him on his cell phone. The guy just said that they were burning up.

To hedge my book I sometimes used Cantor Fitzgerald to buy or sell treasuries. The afternoon before I had spoken to my salesman and was scheduled to talk to him that morning.

When we finally went back to work (All markets closed for a few days) I got a call from a Cantor salesman in England.

I was in Chicago, about 6 blocks from Sears Tower, looking at it out the window, wondering if it was next, listening to the radio since the internet was dead.

I had gone to sleep with the TV on the night before. I woke up to them showing the first plane hit, then the second.
As soon as I saw the second hit I yelled out "We've been attacked!"
The woman who raised me passed away at the end of October, but was in the hospital at the time of the attacks.
Her brother and I were talking about it all the time I was driving to the hospital to see her.
We got there and the nurses were talking about it non-stop. One of them had a sister on the flight that they took the plane back from the hijackers.
