I would hope you do. I'm not saying administrators and teachers aren't without responsibility, but you have to acknowledge that in many cases, teachers are hamstrung from doing their job because of little to no parental support.
Absolutely. I've chastized more than a few parents for only showing up at the school or board meetings when they have a complaint, but being nowhere to be found when their child needs help or encouragement.
I'm simply saying that not looking at teachers as well is a mistake. There are shitty parents, and shitty students, and shitty school administrators, and there are also shitty teachers.
lt takes a combination of all four, and more, for 13 schools to not even able to produce ONE student who is at grade level in math.

More evidence that Math is Racist and was created by White Racists.
You're close. The paper I read from an Indian (dot) professor about 10 years ago concluded:
'Math is an artificial social construct created by Western Civilization to oppress people of color.'

Won't matter; don't need any education if Bernie is elected. Everybody gets a *Government* job with a living wage salary. Problem solved.

And as an added bonus, these kids will be so uneducated that we can tell them they are getting $1K a month, but actually only give them $100 and they woldn't know the difference

I agree with this. I was private schooled up until I enrolled at LSU, and I had the privilege of wonderful teachers, shitty teachers, and many who were somewhere between the two. The administrators, from my perspective, were fine. However, regardless of the teacher, my parents didn't allow me not to succeed. That just simply wasn't an option. They went to every open house, every parent-teacher night, every teacher-requested conference, and they even requested some from time to time. There were times that I needed extra help and support to overcome a bad teacher. But they saw to it I got it, whether it was giving me a kick in the arse to do better, or getting me a tutor. The point is, they were active and present.
It's much easier for a parent to help a child overcome a bad teacher than it is for a teacher to help a child overcome a bad/uninvolved parent.
I don't give teachers an auto pass, but in too many cases there is only so much they can do.

What a disaster. It’s a crime.

This is prevalent among many many urban school districts across the country. Its a culture problem, not a teacher, funding or curriculum problem. Until there is a change in culture in these communities regarding education, the more this will continue. Sad for America
There are semi-private schools in harsh Urban areas in Los Angeles that make the kids wear uniforms and the parents have to pay a small percentage of tuition and the kids do really well because everyone is invested.
The full public schools are for shite. California just doesn't give a shite and doesn't have the money and the schools are full of people who can't read or write English.
They should just make it like the old days...if you don't want to learn, you just have to hit 5th grade and be a laborer your entire life. That's how it was for our great-grandparents.
Hell it was until after the 1950's that anything past 8th grade was required.
Forcing 17 year olds to go to school to sell drugs and waste everyone's time is not worth a teacher's effort.
You have to be committed...not just showing up because the State says you have to show up.

I did a little looking around on this district.
They have a portfolio model - some tradtional schools, some charter, some alternative - the suckage seems to be spread out across all types of schools.
The board of commissioners of this district are appointed by the mayor and the governor.

I am just having a hard time wrapping my head around 13 schools not having ONE student who is doing age level math. The odds of that being true are so slim.........
I would suggest that the first thing that needs to happen is the Superintendent of that district needs to be fired.

The ridicule of inner city schools, inner city school teachers, and inner city school students. It hasn't resulted in much improvement, now has it?
Maybe the political Right could come up with a better strategy for bringing about improvement inner city education than just derisive mockery, hateful animus, racist quips, and insult. Or would that be asking too much?
Maybe if the students leftest parents could give a shite about their shildren and their education the right would as well. You cant make chicken salad out of chicken shite and thats what they have in this school district.
At the all black school I taught at, We had female students getting pregnant so thay could collect a check because their parents told them to.
We also are battling en epidemic in the black community in our area with parents telling their students to fail on purpose so that they can get what they call a "stupid check" Yes you heard that right, a stupid check. If you live on welfare and your child is in any special ed program they get government money for that child. My wife busted three students last year who were passing test at first with flying colors and then all of a sudden started failing and the mothers wanted their babies tested for being stupid which was the mothers exact words.
so deadfish frick you! Until the people weant to help themselves why should we help them!

This goes way passed Common Core, or any curriculum for that matter.

Pretty sure the point is it doesn't matter what system you are using if the student doesn't want to learn.

So you don't read at grade level? Are you from Baltimore?
It means Common Core isn't the problem if you have children who just don't want to learn

Thats great and alk but youre still speaking for him. Unless youre his alter, you dont definitively know what he means. This has nothing to do with reading comprehension

The "political right" could come up with the perfect fix, and it would be ignored because it came from the "political right." No suggestion from conservatives or whatnot will ever be listened to in these solidly democratic cities.
