There were two studies done on the histories of homicide with one in NYC in 1960 and the other in Charlotte, NY in the mid-1990's. The researchers studied every homicide and every victim in great detail, not just for convictions in court or other official records.

This issue hits all of us at home. Close by. Real time. Daily. I'm far more concerned about this issue than opening The Straight, Reflecting Pools and UFC spectacles. This would be the one singular issue Politicians should concentrate their efforts on, particularly the judicial side. Yet, we hear crickets.

We have too many violent criminals in prison.
I'm talking about 30 day max on death row, and more put on death row.

Whether it has been good or bad for El Salvador, they are incarcerating 1.6% of their population. We currently incarcerate 0.7%. They are doing it at half the rate of spending per prisoner that we are. If we account for scale differences, we are basically incarcerating half as many people, but spending the same amount of money.
If we want to increase incarceration, we first have to fix the incredibly corrupt and wasteful jail and prison system to make it economically viable.

Correct. Take away all creature comforts. They can farm for their food. They can stamp license plates. They need to be worked until they are too tired to cause trouble. No TV except for during meals. 1 hour per day on internet if they are taking online courses Prison should be a place no one wants to go.
And, bring back 3 strikes laws except for life, they should get death. We need to return to high trust society where you don't have to live in fear of people harming you or taking your stuff. We didn't even lock our house and left keys in our cars growing up in the 60s and 70s.
Know when shite changed? During desegregation. Hmmmm...
