I'd go with the 6mm Remington. A little more than a .243 and a little less than a 7mm08.
Problem is you cant find any frick'n bullets to shoot it with.

not sure where you are, but i have a Tikka Lite .243 with a leupold on it that has barely been used. im a grown adult with two girls, so don't see the need for it.
would rather it go to someone with a young kid who will use it.

Had a 7mm-08 for my first deer rifle. Dropped just about every deer in its tracks

Would a 20” barrel in 7mm be considered youth? Looking on gunbroker now

length of pull is much more of the determining factor. While you won't find many youth rifles with more than 20" or 22" of barrel, plenty of rifles have 20" barrels and an adult LOP.
edit: you can also always buy an adult rifle with a shortish barrel and swap the stock for a shorter one until they grow a bit. Big rem. model 7 fan here.

Not to pile on, but got my son a Browning X-Bolt 7MM-08 at that age and he still uses it at 26 and likely will the rest of his life.

Ok so now this has me curious... does it have to be a youth model if you are shooting lite rounds thru it?

A “lite” load is just a lighter bullet or a filling powder like trail boss.
So, yes perfectly fine.
I’ll also add that a light weight youth rifle will have more recoil than a regular rifle.
Buddy of mine’s son bought himself a Mossberg Compact (this may not be correct) in 7mm-08 and that little gun kicked pretty good.

I bought mine a 6.5 Grendel so he'd have an adjustable LOP, but he smoked his first last year with my Bergara B14 6.5 Creedmore.

My 9yo has been shooting 6.5 Creedmoor last 2 years and has taken several deer and hog. No recoil so he doesn’t flinch at all

Yea, I know.
It's available in every rifle model, tons of ammo options, perfect whitetail performance.
I still like the swede better, but it's slim pickings for factory rifles or ammo.

Bought a Model 7 .243 30 years ago when my little girl started hunting with me. Love that gun, never had one get away from it alive

Hard to find ammo. Especially for 7 mm 08

I still use my Savage .243 that my dad bought from Walmart 20 years ago. Have had zero issues finding deer.
