re: Pogy Boat Buffer Reduction LWF Commission Nov 6 - Be There

Lets go...the meeting is on Thursday. Even if you can't stay, please try to go by and fill out a card of opposition. It matters.
We can all sit here and bitch about it, but here is your chance to show up.

Veterinarian Rec - Baton Rouge
Posted by craazyjose on 10/15/25 at 9:11 pm
Looking for recs for a vet in the Baton Rouge area. Have been using the same one for a while and they do a decent job, but have gotten really expensive. Its for a golden retriever if that matters.
Hardwood Floors - Baton Rouge
Posted by craazyjose on 9/3/25 at 11:15 am
Had some floor damage on a hardood floor and had to replace most of the bedroom. Looking to get one bedroom sanded and refinished. The wood is new, unfinished 21/4' red oak. Would appreciate any recommendations? Also, any idea on expected cost? The room is roughly 12'x12'.
Thanks,
Ben

Have one that is at least 20-25 years ago. The grip is a bit blocky, but I love it and shoot it well.
New Small SUV
Posted by craazyjose on 8/18/25 at 1:14 pm
Daughter will start driving soon and will need a car. Probably going to buy used and thinking smaller SUV. Huyandai, Toyota, Mazda, KIA, Etc. Any rec's on something reliable, safe and relatively inexpensive? Budget would be $15k/+/- Thanks

Its about 3 ft of two planks in two areas. I am pretty handy, but would like to find a professional if possible. The wood is probably 50 years old and I do not have an extra planks. Thank you.
re: shipping a boat internationally from C.R. to U.S.?

Hire someone to tow it. I once knew a guy that towed a 31 foot CC from BR to Costa Rica. Just bring lots of spares, cash and watch out for the speed bumps in Mexico.

Thanks guys. Any tips for lift ticket pricing? We would probably only ski 2-3 days out of the 5 that we would be gone.
Family Ski Trip Ideas
Posted by craazyjose on 7/28/25 at 4:31 pm
Kids (ages 12 & 15( are wanting to go skiing this year and I am trying to make it happen. Kids and I are beginner to intermediate skiers, wife sustained an injury a few years ago and has no interest in skiing. Kids have been one time to Steamboat a couple of years ago and had fun.
Would appreciate suggestions on destination options that won't completely break the bank, have plenty of beginner terrain have a decent "town" area with restaurants for the wife. Reasonable flights from BR or NOLA would also help.
A friend mentioned Whitefish so may check that out.
Appreciate any input
Would likely go for 4-6 days over Mardi Gras.

re: Columbia River Gorge
Posted by craazyjose on 6/30/25 at 4:11 pm to AUFANATL
Thank you. Current plan is below. Would appreciate any feedback.
Day 1 - Land in Seattle at 10 AM - Drive to Ashford. Spend that afternoon hiking and stay at an AIRBNB. Next day hike, head back to Seattle after lunch
Day 2-3 - Seattle - Dinner, museums, Pike market, Sailing cruise. Head to Port Angeles on Day 4
Day 4 - Overnight in Port Angeles Olympic Park, see Hurricane Ridge, Etc
Day 5 - More Olympic - Hue rain forest, beaches, overnight in Forks.
Day 6 - Morning in Olympic then head towards Columbia Gorge Check out part of the gorge area as time allows. Overnight in Hood River
Day 7-8 - More Gorge area stuff and hikes. Head towards Bend/Kalamata Falls. either do two nights in bend or the falls...open to suggestions.
Day 9-11 - Oregon Coast/Pacific Beach - Dory fishing two days in Pacific City
Day 12 - Back to seattle to fly out the next morning.
I know its a lot of driving but we are a road trip family. Daughter really wants to see seattle and sons primary request was crater lake and fishing. I am easy and just like seeing new places (and brewpubs). Bonus for any recommendations for restaurants or must sees in any of these areas.
Thank you for any recommendations.

Columbia River Gorge
Posted by craazyjose on 6/29/25 at 1:43 pm
Doing a road trip from Seattle (Olympic National Park) and then to Oregon and trying to get an idea on which town/area to stay in to see the Gorge. Planning on two days there and then driving down to Crater Lake before finishing with 3 days out on the Coast. Lwaning towards staying in Hood River, but Would appreciate any advice on towns to stay in, places to visit, etc. will be two adults and two kids (11 and 15). Like to hike, see cool stuff and walk cool downtown areas.
re: Costa Rica in January for 3 weeks
Posted by craazyjose on 6/29/25 at 1:39 pm to RummelTiger
We went a couple of years ago and did a few days in Arenal (stayed at the Springs Resort) and then rented a VRBO in Playa Conchal. Thoroughly enjoyed both and would not have changed a thing. Conchal has a white sand beach which not the norm for the pacific side, but was awesome. Playa Brasalito is about 10 min away and was also really cool. We drove down to Tamarindo one day and it was cool, but much busier.

We really enjoyed the Twin Peaks Lodge in Ouray. Convenient to everything and having the hot springs on site was really nice.
We have stayed at a couple of hotels in Durango, but none were great.
Hit up 11th street station. Good food, beers and sometimes music.

Alaska Airlines
Posted by craazyjose on 6/13/25 at 5:20 pm
How is Alaska Airlines? I typically fly United or American, but there is a direct AA flight that looks attractive. Their boarding process/open seating gives me pause since it will be a 4+ hour flight and I am traveling with two kids. Appreciate any feedback.

Good job. Any recommendations on specific colors that seem to work better than others?

Seattle/Wash State
Posted by craazyjose on 5/30/25 at 5:02 pm
Heading to the Seattle area in late July for 5-6 days and then planning drive south and spend 5-6 days on the Oregon coast then 1-2 days to see Crater Lake. Have never been to the area and would appreciate info on how to allot time and must see places. Family of 4 that likes to be outside, see cool things and hopefuly make a fishing trip. Olympia National park looks amazing, but also looks huge. Would love to spend part of the trip in the San Juan islands...but which island would be the best?
Thanks
Thanks

Lithium Troll Motor Battery
Posted by craazyjose on 5/8/25 at 3:58 pm
One of my lead troll motor batteries has died and I am in the market for a 24V lithium replacement. Most of the ones on amazon get pretty good reviews, so I am leaning that way. My question is, what amp HR do you guys recommend. Its for a 80lb Minn Kota on a 22' boat. Yes, i know normally get as large as you can, but I am somewhat limited on space and usually don't fish more than a day without being back to a charger. bonus for recommendations on a brand of battery. Thanks
