10 pound power pro and a 20 pound leader.

Quick hijack - whats the logic behind this combi? I've been downsizing line this year and like it so far but Im still learning. Trying top shots on some of my rigs and I really like it so far.

Is that how you are rigged up here, or is the leader just for Carolina and popping corks?

I used to fish a ton of Kistler rods. They are great rods. The KLX series is a great rod for this because it has a little tip action that you would be looking for. The Medium or ML would be perfect for what you are asking. I'd go M of ML just to have a little more backbone in case you hook a red.

The KLX MH bait caster Rod is a beast for throwing spoons. Maybe one of my favorite all time rods I've ever owned. Its perfect.

I do a lot of 3" swimbait fishing with customers here. Also, artificial shrimp on jigheads or pre-rigged. I dont do as much popping corks. The lighter braid allows you to cast the lighter baits better. There is a big difference in 10 pound braid and 15 pound braid on a 2000 or 2500 size reel. Just works better and casts farther with less effort. And if tied correctly and taken care of, it takes a lot of fish to break 10 pound braid if your drag is correct.

We catch a lot of small grouper and a mix of other toothy things while doing this so 20 pound leader is just better. If I was not guiding and only fishing myself, I may switch to a lighter leader but for customers, 20 pound is very tough.

I wish I could hold one. I have just had bad experiences ordering something I have never held before.

My main drop shot/Minnow rod is an Expride B. Love that thing.

I grabbed a TFO inshore that was heavily on sale. It’s a great rod I’ve enjoyed it a lot. Only thing I would change is it’s 6’ 9” and I’d rather have a 7’ but I didn’t mind much because it was basically half off.

Got it paired with a stradic and I couldn’t be happier.

I remember when Sierra had those marked down dramatically. I regret not grabbing one then. They looked to have much better guides than the professional.

I'll respond from my perspective. On spinning tackle, I refuse to put up with either mono or fluoro as a main line due to twist/tangles/knots etc. I also do not like braid straight to lures. So, every single spinning out fit I have(Crappie/Bluegill/Bass/Trout/Red) is some combo of Braid to leader. I'll often use a swivel for both twist and the added weight plus it adds a second echo for FFS.
